Group 1 racing moves west this weekend with the running of the Railway Stakes.

Run over 1600m at Ascot racecourse, the Railway Stakes is a handicap race for three-year-old's and up.

First run in 1887 the Group 1 event has been won by some very good horses including Carbine (1894), Better Loosen Up (1989) and local hero Northerly (2000).

We've gone through ever runner and offered our thoughts below.

1. Belclare (14)

A two-time Group 1 winner in New Zealand, this seven-year-old mare heads west in search of her first in Australia.

She's won back to back Group 2 races in Sydney where she has led all the way to score by over a length and she's won three from seven at this distance.

2. Bustler (10)

Won this race last year which earned him a trip to Melbourne during the autumn but he was outclassed in two starts at Caulfield and Flemington.

Made up plenty of ground late in the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes over 1400m last time out and is capable of running a big race.

3. Casino Seventeen (11)

Was huge when winning the above race first up from a spell, showing a sharp turn of foot to storm over the top atthe right time.

He'll only improve on the back of that effort and local champion William Pike sticks with him.

4. Democracy Manifest (19)

Yet to win this campaign but there is a big race in this horse at some stage in his career.

He's been unplaced in three Group 1 races during his career so far but he was storming home in the Craven Plate over 1800m before heading west.

Barrier doesn't help but he will go back anyway.

5. Light Infantry Man (2)

Has been a big of an enigma since arriving in Australia but he proved what he is capable of when winning the Chester Manifold at Flemington in dominant fashion last start.

James McDonald flies from Hong Kong for the ride which is only a positive and will get a nice run in transit from barrier two.

6. Magnificant Andy (1)

Has been placed in his last couple including a close third behind Casino Seventeen and Bustler at Ascot.

The son of Magnus has 10 wins from 32 career starts and is a winner at his only attempt over 1600m

7. Comfort Me (6)

Led all the ay to win the Group 3 Eurythmic Stakes at Ascot and is another that comes out of the Lee Steere's Stakes when beaten 1.6 lengths.

I'm not sure that is the right form to be winnign a race of this quality but he's certainly racing well at the moment.

8. Let's Galahvant (15)

Comes through the same form lines as Comfort Me without winning, but like many in his last race, he wasn't beaten far.

Can improve but will need to.

9. Searchin' Roc's (7)

Won a listed event first up from a spell at Belmont and has raced well since without winning.

She's had six start at Group 1 and 2 level without placing and this looks a tough assignment.

10. Socks Nation (17)

This is a very progressive four-year-old mare who managed to win the Group 1 Queensland Oaks during the winter.

Although she stretched out to win that race she does have a sharp turn of foot which she showed when third in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes last start.

She'll need luck from the wide draw but she looks over the odds.

11. Mojo Rhythm (13)

Was well beaten in a benchmark 78 at Ascot first up over 1400m but earned a shot in this race off the back of a Group 3 win over 1500m last time out.

Drops 1kg from that win which will only help his chances.

12. Port Lockroy (9)

Was beaten half a length when resuming over an unsuitable trip first up at Randwick behind the smart Ostraka.

Made up a heap of ground late in the Golden Eagle which looks fantastic form for a race like this.

13. Super Smink (18)

This is a very prgressive type of mare who has an excellent record in black type races where she has missed a place only once in 12 attempts.

This is her first go at the top level of racing and she comes into it off the back of a good win at Group 3 level.

14. Triple Missile (4)

Finished 1.8 lengths off Super Smink first up at Ascot but meets that horse worse at the weights for this contest.

Will improve off the back of that effort and has drawn to get a lovely run in transit from barrier four.

15. Trix Of The Trade (8)

Six-year-old gelding who has nine wins from 25 career starts although it has been some time since his last victory.

He is a Group 1 winner but is not racing in the same form.

16. Zipaway (12)

Won the Group 2 W.A Guineas this time last year before finishing a close third in the Group 1 Notherly Stakes over 1800m.

Placed in both the Group 2 Alistair Clark Stakes and Autumn Stakes during the autumn and was excellent first up.

Looks ready to fire now.
