Tough mare Verry Elleegant takes the lead at the 300m mark and storms to an impressive victory in the 2021 Melbourne Cup, giving jockey James McDonald and trainer Chris Waller their first wins in the race. 


Melbourne Cup 2020 Replay

Nine-year-old mare (in the Northern Hemisphere) Twilight Payment leads all the way under jockey Jye McNeil to claim victory in the 2020 Melbourne Cup. It was the second win for Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien as he defeated his father Aidan O’Brien’s horse Tiger Moth.

A win for the Aussies with Vow And Declare holding the fast-finishing European visitors Prince Of Arran and Il Paradiso. It was the first Cup win for jockey Craig Williams and trainer Danny O’Brien.

Kerrin McEvoy claims his third Melbourne Cup win as a jockey when steering Cross Counter to victory. It was the first win for Godolphin who had been vying for Cup success for many years.

Jockey Corey Brown claims his second win in the Melbourne Cup when lifting Rekindling over the line to defeat Johannes Vermeer. 


Melbourne Cup Replay 2016

A second win for Kerrin McEvoy in the Melbourne Cup when extracting the best out of Almandin who narrowly defeated Heartbreak City.


Melbourne Cup Replay 2015

History was made in the 2015 Melbourne Cup when Michelle Payne became the first female jockey to win the race. Payne scored aboard 100/1 chance Prince Of Penzance who defeated Max Dynamite and Criterion. 


Melbourne Cup Replay 2014

The 2014 Melbourne Cup went to German visitor Protectionist who was ridden by top UK jockey Ryan Moore. The pair defeated Red Cadeaux, who was second in the race for the third time, and local hope Who Shot Thebarman.


Melbourne Cup Replay 2013

A third Melbourne Cup win for Hall of Fame jockey Damien Oliver aboard Fiorente who had run second in 2012. It was the first win in the race for leading trainer Gai Waterhouse.

The first win in the Melbourne Cup for jockey Brett Prebble as he guided Green Moon to victory from Fiorente and Jakkalberry. 


Melbourne Cup Replay 2011

One of the longest photo finishes in Melbourne Cup history as the judge agonised over photo before declaring Dunaden the winner over Red Cadeaux. Lucas Cranach was back in third place.

Legendary trainer Bart Cummings claims his 12th and final victory in the Melbourne Cup with Blake Shinn lifting Viewed over the line to score in a photo finish. 

Melbourne Cup Replay 2007

Victoria Derby winner Efficient showed his class when coming from midfield to score in the 2007 Melbourne Cup with Michael Rodd aboard. UK visitors Purple Moon and Mahler finished second and third.

A Japanese Quinella in the 2006 Melbourne Cup with Delta Blues defeating Pop Rock with local hope Maybe Better four lengths back in third place.

An historic moment in the Cup with Makybe Diva becoming the first horse to win the race three times. She held off the fast-finishing On A Jeune and brave New Zealander Exellent.

Back-to-back victories in the race for Makybe Diva who defeated Vinnie Roe and Zazzman.

Melbourne Cup Replay 2003

The first Melbourne Cup victory for champion mare Makybe Diva who would go on to become the first mare to win two Cups, and then the first horse to win three. 


Melbourne Cup Replay 2002

One of the most memorable Cups in history with Damien Oliver guiding Media Puzzle to victory just days after his brother Jason had died in a race fall. 



Melbourne Cup Replay 2001

Give The Slip had done just that and looked home halfway down the straight before Ethereal rocket home to score. Sheila Laxon became the first female trainer to win the Melbourne Cup.
