The field for the Lightning Stakes is released on the Wednesday morning prior to the race. You will then be able to bet on the confirmed runners for the Caulfield race.
Black Caviar Lightning Form Guide
Form from the previous year generally holds up well in the Lightning Stakes, which is run down the straight at Flemington.
Punters should look for the thoroughbreds that handle running down the straight, as not all sprinters can handle it. Horses such as Redkirk Warrior, which won in 2018, are much better suited without a turn.
Many of Australia’s best sprinters have won the race so it pays to look at backing the favourites. Names such as Black Caviar, Apache Cat, Miss Andretti and Fastnet Rock have all won.
Black Caviar Lightning History
First run in 1955, the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes has long been associated with the best sprinters in Australia and it continues to grow as a race.
The Black Caviar Lightning Stakes is run over 1000m for $750,000 and the weight-for-age contest typically sees some of the younger horses try and take out the seasoned professionals.
It was named in honour of Black Caviar in 2013, the same year she took out her third and final Lightning Stakes. She became one of only a few horses to win a race named in their honour.
It has become a race to increase stud prospects as well, with future stud stars Fastnet Rock, Nicconi and Choisir all saluting since 2003.
