Now the new race takes place later in the spring and is part of The Everest Day at Randwick Racecourse in October.

George Main Stakes & King Charles III History
The George Main Stakes was named after former chairman the Australian Jockey Club and existed for over 60 years on the Sydney racing landscape.
First ran over the 1000m distance, the George Main Stakes was moved to the mile journey in 1972, the trip it is ran over to this day.
While the $500,000 was an enticing prize, the ballot exemption towards the Epsom Handicap is the ticket most competitors are after.
In 2023, the race was given a new name in honour of King Charles III and moved to later in the spring as part of The Everest Day.
