2020 J.J. Atkins Best Bet – Prince Fawaz @ 4.50
Prince Fawaz is steadily firming in the betting following his win at Randwick last start and it was mightily impressive.
Anthony Cummings lines up the two-year-old colt which has won only one race from four starts, but will love the rise in distance here. He likes to get back during his races and put in some big bounds late.
Having a turn-of-foot is always a positive for any thoroughbred and Prince Fawaz owns a scintillating one.
The son of Fastnet Rock finished off like a house on fire when scoring by 1.3 lengths at Randwick and that came over a nice field.
He’s only going to enjoy racing over more ground and he could be a Derby type next season.
We’re confident in his chances and the 4.50 on offer with bookmakers represents value worth taking.
2020 J.J. Atkins Best Each Way – Reloaded @ 4.50
Chris Waller lines up Reloaded, which was beaten by Prince Fawaz last time out but didn’t have much luck in running.
The two-start colt ran out on the turn and lost most of his momentum. Still, he battled on well for second and is only going to improve with the experience.
Prior to that defeat he was a winner on debut at Randwick where he defeated the likes of Disruptor and Discharged. The form out of that race hasn’t quite stacked up but he’s a much better type.
There’s still plenty of unknown about Reloaded so punters will have to take a risk, but the J.J. Atkins betting suggests he’s a talented type.
He has firmed into 4.50 after opening at a much higher quote so keep him safe.
2020 J.J. Atkins Best Roughie – Czarson @ 15.00
Czarson might not be everyone’s best roughie pick, but he’s got some class and good performances on his side.
The Waterhouse/Bott-trained colt has won two and finished second in two of his six starts, including a placing in the Group 2 Champagne Classic.
That form has been franked with third placegetter Strasbourg coming out and winning last start. He then ran fourth in the Sires’ Produce at Eagle Farm last start and he was only 1.5 lengths behind the winner.
He’s a son of Stratum which has good tactical speed and given his experience in the likes of the Magic Millions, he won’t find this occasion too big a task.
15.00 is definitely worth taking and he could win the J.J. Atkins with just a touch of luck.
