Golden Rose Tips - Godolphin filly the one to beat in the Golden Rose

The 2025 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill shapes as a mouth-watering clash of emerging stars, with gun filly Tempted the dominant early favourite at $3.60. 

The Ciaron Maher-trained filly in the Godolphin blue was electric in the Run To The Rose two weeks ago, sprinting away from her rivals to confirm her Group 1 credentials. 

She will be out to become the second filly to win this race and victory would also rocket her into pole position for Godolphin’s coveted Everest slot

Chris Waller holds a powerful hand with Autumn Boy ($4.80), Wodeton ($6) and Sixties all accepted, while Beiwacht will also run in Godolphin’s Royal Blue under the master trainer’s care. 

Seven of the nine contenders come out of the Run To The Rose, including the Chris Waller duo of Beiwacht (2nd) and Wodeton (4th). Those two were split by Skyhook, who produced the fastest last 200m. Wodeton also did enough in the Run To The Rose to suggest he will relish the 1400m from a soft draw with James McDonald aboard. 

Waller has four runners in the Golden Rose, including Autumn Boy, who looms as a huge threat. The colt, by The Autumn Sun, already has strong wraps on him and showed his quality when closing hard for second in the Ming Dynasty (1400m) behind his stablemate, Sixties. The blinkers will be applied for the first time in a bid to unlock his untapped potential and can announce himself as a genuine Group 1 star. 

Rivellino and Nepotism add further intrigue, while Tempted’s stablemate, State Visit gives Maher a second chance at the feature. With Tempted chasing history and Waller’s trio circling as serious dangers, the 2025 Golden Rose promises to deliver another classic contest in a race renowned for shaping the careers of future champions.

Expect Sixties and Beiwacht to take up the running. Beiwacht draws barrier 2 and shouldn't have to work too hard early on, while Sixties will sit outside or might even find the lead from barrier 4. Skyhook will be handy, while Wodeton draws barrier 1 and can sit closer this time around. Autumn Boy will be front half. Tempted draws barrier 8 in the nine-horse field and will stalk her rivals from a midfield position. 

Tempted is the one to beat in the Golden Rose after resuming with a win in the Run To The Rose. The daughter of Street Boss stepped up when the heat was on, producing the fastest splits between the 600m to the 200m to run her rivals ragged, going a very healthy 11 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is the best last start benchmark figure of any runner. Autumn Boy has the form on the board over the 1400m and went seven lengths faster than standard last time in the Ming Dynasty. But Tempted should have plenty more in the tank and gives the impression that the step to the 1400m should be right up her alley. I expect this race to be run in similar fashion to the Run To The Rose, which will suit. 

State Visit represents value at the massive price. The stablemate of Tempted was well beaten in the Run To The Rose when four lengths off the winner but wasn't disgraced and was really only warming up late. The son of the recently deceased sire, Wooton Bassett, will be much better suited over the 1400m and improved 8.5 lengths on benchmark figures in the autumn when stepping up from the 1200m to finish runner-up behind the impressive galloper, Vinrock, in the VRC Sires. He will benefit from what looks to be a solid tempo up front and does look over the odds.
