Race 2: No.9 Downey
The Mark Currie-trained galloper has been bridesmaid in all three starts this campaign and looks set for a change of luck in this event.
Last start, the Toronado gelding made it three-straight runner-up finishes when he beat all but one home (again) in a BM70 over 1400m at the Gold Coast.
Settling back in the field, he spotted them a big lead before scouting wide on the turn and despite finishing strongly, still arrived too late for the big prize, taking home the silver medal again for his connections.
Back on his home track, he drops back to country class racing here and is ideally drawn in gate two where he maps to settle near mid-field early with new pilot Angela Jones in the saddle.
Coming back to the 1200m, if he can stay in touch with them early, he will have fitness on his side and should prove hard to hold out in this contest.
Race 8: No.12 Give Giggles
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper is in career-best form this time in and looks well placed here to ring-up the hat-trick in this event.
Last start, the War Decree mare destroyed here opposition in a BM85 over 1200m at Eagle Farm.
Ridden a treat by Ben Thompson, he gave the mare the run of race, settling one out, one back, before taking over inside the final 200m and left them all to fight out the minors as she crossed the line 2.5 lengths clear in the end.
This is a little harder, being a Listed event, but she does drop 4kgs from that last start win and comes in on the limit here with just 53kgs to carry.
Thompson sticks with her for this assignment and with a trouble-free run, she looks a serious contender for the big prize in this contest.
Race 9: No.5 Impervious
Tony Gollan saddles-up Impervious here who is yet to miss a podium finish in six career starts to date and looks well placed here to keep that record intact in this event.
Last start, the Farnan filly made it back-to-back (city class) victories when she finished too strong for them in a Three-Year-Old Open event over 1200m at Doomben.
Angela Jones stuck with her that day where she led from barrier to box, holding off all challenges in the run home where she clocked 1:09 for the 1200m trip.
She draws the outside gate here in the nine-horse field but maps to cross and find cover early, settling mid-field.
Dropping back off city class opposition, the three-year-old should find this a little easier with Jones steering the ship again.
Winning form is good form and with a trouble-free run here, the filly is every chance of bringing up the hat-trick in this contest.
