Race 6: No.3 The Mansman
The Phillip Stokes-trained galloper has been thereabouts this time in and on track for a change of luck in this event.
Last start, the Almanzor gelding put in another honest effort when he beat all but one home in a BM64, here over 1800m.
Jacob Opperman settled him mid-field with cover before weaving between runners and finishing on strongly to grab the silver medal, his second this preparation.
Meeting similar company here, he steps-up to the 1950m trip with Opperman at the helm again.
From gate seven, he the five-year-old maps to settle mid-field or better and with the extras ground to cover, looks a good chance to ring-up his first win for this campaign.
Race 7: No.4 Zoupurring
Another from the Stokes stable, Zoupurring is second-up here and looks set to make it two-straight in this event.
Last start, the Zoustar gelding resumed after six months off the scene and was impressive when winning in restricted company, here over 1200m on the main track.
Jacob Opperman had the reins that day and had the gelding box-seating on settling before arriving late to grab victory on the line.
From gate nine here, his early speed has him crossing to be box-seating on settling with Opperman steering the ship again.
Already a two-time winner when second-up, a trouble-free run sees the six-year-old a genuine winning chance in this contest.
Race 8: No.6 Nicish
Phillip Stokes saddles-up Nicish here who is in career-best form and looks primed to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Nicconi mare made it two-straight runner-up prizes when she beat all but one home in a BM64, here over 1200m.
Caught wide from barrier rise, the mare travelled four-deep without cover to the turn where she tracked even wider and still finished strongly enough to grab the silver medal, missing out on gold by a whisker on the line.
The five-year-old draws wide again (in gate 9) but maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with cover as regular stable rider Jacob Opperman is legged aboard for this assignment.
Already a two-time winner at the track and distance, meeting similar company again, he looks a serious player for the main prize in this contest.
