2020 Golden Rose Stakes Tips & Picks
The Golden Rose is one of the first Group 1 races for the three-year-old contingent. Held in late September, the $1 million race features all the best juveniles from the season prior.
What makes it such an interesting race is that punters don’t know which juveniles will mature and make quality three-year-olds.
That’s the test when having a punt on the Golden Rose but it makes for an intriguing race.
It also makes for good value from bookmakers. Punters can bet on the 2019 Golden Rose now and with no runners currently quoted at single-figure odds, it’s value paradise.
2019 Golden Rose Best Bet – Exceedance @ 4.80
Exceedance certainly has some hype following him after only two starts as a juvenile. The Hawkes-trained colt was a winner on debut before running third at Rosehill.
His run for third last start was an incredible effort and his sectionals were quite outstanding. He didn’t win, however, which is a negative but it has hard not to be impressed with that.
Bookmakers quickly firmed his odds for the Golden Rose despite the form out of that 2YO Handicap not stacking up well since.
He’s still out top pick on talent alone and if he can produce a more professional effort come race day, the 9.00 on offer could look silly when it’s all said and done.
2020 Golden Rose Best Each Way – Yes Yes Yes @ 5.50
Yes Yes Yes is on the same line of betting as Microphone and represents a good each-way chance at those odds.
The Chris Waller-trained runner, which started with Darren Weir, is a three-time winner from five starts.
His best performance came when winning the Group 2 Todman Stakes at Randwick and he wasn’t suited by the wet track in the Slipper.
He finished seventh but never looked likely in the heavy conditions. With the track likely to be in the good range come September, Yes Yes Yes could reward punters.
Yes Yes Yes has the scope to fill out and mature into a more-than-handy three-year-old colt.
2020 Golden Rose Best Roughie – Prince Fawaz @ 23.00
The Anthony Cummings-trained runner is more likely to be running over 1600-2000m this spring, but he’s a past winner at 1400m.
He scored a Group 1 J.J. Atkins Plate win to end last season and that was a terrific galloping display at Eagle Farm. However, the competition will be stiffer for the Golden Rose so that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Despite that, there’s plenty to like about Prince Fawaz and the odds are appealing.
