Swan Hill Racing Tips for September 22 – Fonn to Power late over the 2400m

This looks to be a winnable race for Oceans Fouroseven. The Corstens and Larkin filly has had just the one career start, finishing fifth behind Zambales in a maiden that was considerably stronger than this. She settled handy before battling away, with the winner having been competitive against some of the better horses of his age group in the Golden Slipper (1200m) and Blue Diamond (1200m) last autumn. Oceans Fouroseven went 4.9 lengths slower than standard benchmark on debut, which is more than seven lengths better than the next-best last-start figure of any runner in this race. She should benefit from the experience and has attracted early support in betting. Expected to be hard to beat.

Solid Devotion is set to break through in Race 2. The Henry Dwyer-trained filly has had three career starts for three placings and stepped out at Warrnambool on a Heavy track earlier this month, settling handy before going down to Alchemistic. Prior to that, she was third at Bendigo, where she went 1.6 lengths slower than standard benchmark, a figure more than five lengths better than anything her rivals have produced in their careers to date. The daughter of Pinatubo comes into this third-up and gets the blinkers on for the first time. Unless one of the debutants produces something above average, this looks to be hers for the taking.

Fonn Power shapes as a major player in Race 6 after a last-start effort that saw him finish runner-up at Donald in the narrowest of margins. That came over the 2000m, where he settled midfield before just failing to reel in the winner. The son of Singing appeared to appreciate the drier surface that day and should be suited by the improving conditions at Swan Hill. He now steps up to the 2400m and the Patrick Payne-trained gelding looks well placed to go one spot better.

Attain can go close in the final race of the day at Swan Hill. The six-year-old was a bit of an eye-catcher at Mildura two starts ago, overcoming traffic at the 400m before producing the fastest late splits to narrowly miss out behind Packer's Journey. He has had one start since, finishing seventh in Saturday company at Morphettville over the 1050m. He got too far back in the run before producing the fastest 400m–200m split, but the lack of early tempo counted against him. This is easier and he steps back up in distance to the 1300m, while barrier 3 should allow him to settle much closer to the action. The son of Outreach represents each-way value.
