- Can Orchestral be beaten?
A classic lead in race for the Australian Oaks, the Vinery Stud Stakes is run over 2000m at Rosehill for three-year-old staying fillies at set weights.
First run in 1979, the Group 1 race has been won by some fantastic staying fillies including Research (1989), Miss Finland (2007) and Verry Elleegant (2019).
We’ve taken a look at every single runner this year and our four betting selections can be found below with odds from Diamondbet.
1. Orchestral
Roger James and Robert Wellwood send over their exciting filly Orchstrial for a tilt at the Australian Oaks and are hoping at scoring their second Group 1 with the daughter of Savabeel in the Vinery Stud on the way through.
She secured her first Group 1 victory in her last outing when she beat the boys in the New Zealand Derby by four lengths, her fourth win in a row by a combined 13+ lengths.
The drop back from 2400m to 2000m is the only concern because she has looked ultra impressive and is the deserving favourite.
2. Zardozi (7)
The obvious danger to the New Zealand filly is the VRC Oaks winner Zardozi who also looks bomb proof.
She romped home at Flemington to close out her spring campaign winning by over two lengths on the line proving the staying distance is not an issue.
There were few that thought she’d be competitive second up over 1500m at Rosehill which was evident by her double figure quote but she showed an excellent turn of foot to win by two lengths despite the jock being half a kilo over.
3. Kimochi (6)
She’s as consistent a three-year-old filly that their is in this crop and although she has just two wins to her name, she has been unplaced just once in 12 career starts.
The daughter of Brave Smash secured her first black type win in the Group 2 Light Fingers first up this campaign, a crucial win for her residual value.
She was then excellent when going down in a photo finish in the Coolmore behind Zougotcha last time out.
This will be the first time she steps up to 2000m but her class will take her a long way.
4. Autumn Angel (5)
The Peter Moody trained filly is another that has been incredibly consistent during her short racing career having been unplaced only once in seven trips to the races.
She won her second Group race at Flemington in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes over 1600m and there shouldn’t be any doubt on her running the distance as she won the Ethereal over 2000m during the spring.
Fitness should not be a concern and she’s drawn well in barrier five.
5. Tutta La Vita (4)
The Chris Waller trained filly has just the one win to her name from nine career starts but she has been competitive in some good races including a placing at Group 1 level first up.
Should be ready to peak third up and has drawn to get a lovely run in transit from barrier four.
6.Queen Of Dragons (3)
Broke through for her second career win in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic and I loved the way she worked right through the line suggesting the step up in trip will suit.
She was narrowly denied at Listed level over 1800m at Flemington last campaign and she’ll be nearing peak fitness at her third run.
7. Mare Of Mt Buller (10)
Chris Waller saddles up this very progressive daughter of Dundeel who has won three of four so far in her short racing career.
All three of those wins have been the prep, dating back to December, and all runs have been spaced out.
Her breeding suggests the distance will not be an issue being by Dundeel and out of a Redoute’s Choice mare so I’d be keeping her safe in betting.
8. Our Gold Hope (1)
A grey filly that continues to step up to the grade every time she is asked and has been placed in all three this campaign.
She was only clear late in the Kembla Grange Classic but managed to run into second, beaten a length.
Looks over the odds with natural improvement.
9. Piplup (9)
Broke through for her maiden win at Hawkesbury at her fourth run last start and while she only just won, there was a big gap back to third.
She’ll need to go to another level but I’ve seen worse $250 shots!
10. True Fairy (8)
Has been placed in her last four in a row that has included two wins.
This is a whole other level to a class 1 at Grafton but she is bred to stay.
