Tancred Stakes Tips - Runner-by-Runner Guide for the Rosehill Group 1
- Runner-by-Runner Guide to the Tancred Stakes
- Who will take out the Rosehill Group 1?
- Military Mission is a value each-way price
Formerly the BMW, the Tancred Stakes is run over 2400m at Rosehill for three-year-old’s and above at weight-for-age conditions.
A highlight of the Sydney autumn carnival the race was first run in 1963 and has been won by some champion thoroughbreds including Kingston Town (1980), Might And Power (1998) and Makybe Diva (2005).
An excellent field has been assembled this year and we’ve gone through the entire field below including best odds using the Elitebet referral code.
1. Buckaroo (7)
Is yet to win since arriving in Australia but did manage his first placing behind Via Sistina last weekend in what may prove a good form reference going forward.
He has always performed best on a rain affected track which he has avoided in his short time in the country so far and this is his first go beyond 2000m.
Has come up too short in the market for mine.
2. Military Mission (10)
A very progressive type of stayer who came into his own with two wins at Group 2 level during the spring.
He was cramped for room at a vital stage in the Ranvet and didn’t appreciate it at all, and I thought he found the line quite well when pulled to the outside of horses late.
Will be nearing peak fitness now and can run a cheeky race at a nice price.
3. Ashrun (1)
Another former import bought by Australian Bloodstock and they know a thing or two about the caper.
He won his second black type race in Australia when scoring by close to two lengths in the Pakenham Cup and the stable has decided he has earned his chance at a Group 1.
It’s a step up in class but he’s an honest stayer who will give his all.
4. More Felons (2)
I’ve had a bit of an opinion on this lightly raced five-year-old gelding ever since his debut run in the Geelong Cup when he showed an excellent turn of foot late in the race.
He proved his ability when winning first up at this track over 1900m and he gets another crack at Group 1 level after failing in the Melbourne Cup.
Drawn well and will take benefit out of the first up win.
5. Post Impressionist (3)
William Haggas did it again last weekend by knowing exactly which horse to send out to Australia to win our riches.
His gelding Post Impressionist could not have been any more impressive when winning the Group 3 Manion Cup and he’s being asked to back up just seven days later at Group 1 level.
He’s drawn to get a lovely run in transit from barrier three and while it will take a brave man to tip against him, he’s come up extremely short in the market.
6. Gear Up (6)
The former import ran third when making his Australian racing debut at Rosehill but failed to fire a shot at his next two preps.
He’s returned to a semblance of his best form this campaign and managed a win at Listed level at Caulfield last time out.
7. Kalapour (5)
He’s a bit of a battler old Kalapour and the Kris Lees trained gelding has just five wins in his career.
He did place in the Group 1 Metropolitan during the spring and has two placings from as many attempts at 2400m.
Not for me.
8. Bois D’argent (4)
Failed to place in two starts in Group 1 company at 2400m during the spring but was excellent behind Serpentine first up when beaten a length.
That was Listed level and this is another step up in grade.
9. Athabascan (11)
Beaten a combined 13+ lengths in both starts this prep and would need to improve dramatically to be any chance in this.
10. Tom Kitten (9)
The lone three-year-old in the race off the back of a disappointing sixth in the Rosehill Guineas last weekend.
The fact James Cummings has sent him here suggests that he has come through the run really well to be having a shot at the older horses.
There is a fair amount of natural ability with this colt evident in the fact he is a Group 1 winner already and this is a fairly weak edition of the race.
