- Blackbook picks out the four best bets for Tancred Stakes Day
Rosehill racing takes place on Saturday, March 30, with the 10-race program set for Tancred Stakes Day.
We have the best bets picked out from across day with value selections for Rosehill Racecourse including for the two Group 1s.
Race 2: No. 1 Zeyrek
The Hawkes trained gelding is going better than his form on paper suggests having been cramped for room at a vital stage in both runs this campaign so far.
He was never going to win either time but would have finished a lot closer and he should be nearing peak fitness now at his third run.
The son of Sea The Stars won the Group 3 Craven Plate over 2000m during the spring beating home Renaissance Woman by the barest of margins but he meets that mare 1kg better at the weights in this contest.
Race 6: No. 3 Roots
The two-time winning mare returned to the races in this Group 3 event over 1200m off the back of a nice trial leading in.
She’s a mare that can mix her form a bit but three of her seven career wins have been fresh and she has a sharp turn of foot that means she’s always in a race if it’s run at a genuine tempo.
This is a tricky little race but she’s drawn perfectly in barrier three and at double figure odds, is worth an each way play.
Race 9: No. 17 Another Wil
Ciaron Maher was adamant that he was going to give his exciting gelding a light autumn and continue working him up through the grades but I don’t blame him at all for changing course and heading toward a Doncaster Handicap.
I haven’t seen a more exciting prospect than this son of Street Boss since maybe Black Caviar and the way he puts his opponents away in just a few strides is truly incredible.
He must win this race to gain a start in the Doncaster, and he’s not even in the final field here yet!
He’s drawn perfectly and with even luck, he wins again.
Race 10: No. 13 Razors
Ran into a couple of smart gallopers first up when third behind Whinchat and Tavi Time but he battled on gamely.
He’ll take plenty of benefit out of that run and he now has two placings from as many runs at this track and distance.
Tim Clarke can take him to the lead, or just off it, and he’ll go very close.
