The middle leg of the Australian two-year-old Triple Crown is the Inglis Sires’ Produce Stakes run over 1400m at Randwick under set weight conditions.
First run way back in 1867, some champion juveniles have won the Group 1 event including Tulloch (1957), Luskin Star (1977) and more recently Anamoe (2011).
We’ve taken a look at the acceptances and offer our view on each runner below.
1. Storm Boy (8)
The 2024 Magic Millions Classic winner started the Golden Slipper as the short priced favourite but suffered the first defeat of his short career in the race.
For the first time in his career he was forced to settle off the pace but he worked his way into the race in the straight and was far from disgraced finishing third.
He’s always looked to me a colt that would be better over this sort of distance and while you’ll be asked to take a short quote again, he’s one of the leading contenders.
2. Coleman (9)
Couldn’t have been any more impressive when winning at Group 3 level first up and that saw him start favourite in the Blue Diamond where he was a touch disappointing.
The son of Pierata did all but win the Golden Slipper at a big price, just peaking on his run a touch late to allow Lady Of Camelot to pip him.
I’m not sure the extra 200m will suit but his class will take him a long way.
3. Traffic Warden (3)
Godolphin’s best two-year-old has been excellent in all four runs so far this prep and he will be ready to peak at this stage of the campaign.
He’s one of few that contests this race that have already won at 1400m and he did that at Group 2 level only two starts ago at Flemington.
Drawn to get a gun run in transit from barrier three and Jamie Kah jumps back on board after partnering him in that win at Flemington.
4. Prost (5)
Was unplaced for the first time in his short career in the Golden Slipper but had some of the fastest closing sectionals of the entire race late in the piece.
The form around this colt is excellent and the stable sends him back in the fire on Saturday.
Looks well over the odds to me.
5. Anode (1)
The winner of this particular race more than often comes out of the Golden Slipper but this I Am Invincible colt brings in a different form line.
He’s yet to win a race since his debut win at Randwick back in December but has been beaten less than half a length in all three runs this campaign.
Will make his own luck right on the speed from the inside gate.
6. Fearless (4)
The Snowden team skipped the Slipper in preference for this race and he was last seen winning a Newcastle maiden in impressive fashion.
Beat home Traffic Warden first up this prep and his sire Pierata performed well on a heavy track as a race horse.
Drawn well and not the worst.
7. Vianarra (2)
Yet to win a race from six attempts and has been well beaten in his last couple. Out of his depth.
8. Duvana (7)
Finished third behind Storm Boy two back but has been ordinary in his other two starts. Big ask in his first campaign.
9. Lady Of Camelot (6)
Whatever happens from here she is a valuable proposition after securing her future post racing with a win in the Golden Slipper.
Combine this with her second in the Blue Diamond and she has to be considered the best two-year-old in the country right now.
She has shown herself to be adaptable and can roll along in front at a good speed or show a quick turn of foot from just off the pace if needed.
The extra distance as well as the rain affected track are the major concerns for mine.
10. Manaal (10)
The Freedman team have a high class filly on their hands with this girl and she savaged the line in a flashing run late in the Golden Slipper.
She proved her class by scoring at Group 2 level on a soft track two back, winning by 1.3 lengths against her own sex.
The problem with her is how far back she gets in running which may be an issue if the track is heavy on Saturday but she’s right in this if the pattern suits.
