Rosehill Guineas Tips - Runner-by-Runner Guide for the Rosehill Group 1
- Runner-by-Runner Guide to the Rosehill Guineas
- Who will take out the Rosehill Group 1?
- Immediacy is our value selection
The Rosehill Guineas is a Group 1 race for three-year-old’s run over 2000m at Rosehill racecourse at set weights.
First run in 1910, it has been won by some champion horses including Phar Lap (1929), Tulloch (1957) and more recently Anamoe (2022).
We’ve run our keen eye over the entire field and below is our assessment and betting plays with odds from EliteBet.
2. Riff Rocket (8)
The 2023 VRC Derby winner returned in great order when winning at Group 3 level first up over an unsuitable distance and managed to place in the Australian Guineas at his last start.
The son of American Pharoah has five wins from his nine career starts and has been unplaced only once in that period.
He gets out to a distance where he can show his full potential and loses nothing with Nash Rawiller climbing aboard for the first time.
He is also dual accepted in the Ranvet so wait until race morning if betting.
3. Cafe Millenium (6)
Has just the one win to his name from eight career starts and that was when making his debut in February 2023.
He’s always shown potential and he comes into this race off the back of a peak rating in the Randwick Guineas where he was beaten by a very small margin.
Can he do it again? I’m not so sure.
4. Tom Kitten (2)
All three of his starts so far this prep have screamed that the colt is wanting more ground and he has gotten increasingly better each time he’s gone to the races.
The last time he got out to 2000m he dominated his rivals in the Group 2 Spring Champion Stakes, scoring by almost four lengths.
Maps to get a great run in transit from barrier two but interesting that Nash Rawiller has jumped off and Hugh Bowman secures the ride.
5. King Colorado (3)
Started this campaign with two seconds where he was beaten less than a length but was flat last time out in the Australian Guineas when well supported.
He did secure a Group 1 victory as a two-year-old but looks a level below these at three, and I’m not sure he will run out a strong 2000m.
6. Ganbare (4)
This Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained colt was placed behind Tom Kitten in the Group 1 Spring Champion at the end of his spring campaign over 2000m.
Tim Clark dropped the whip at a crucial stage first up and he fought on really well to be beaten only 1.7 lengths in the Randwick Guineas.
The son of Maurice will appreciate the step up in distance and is one that represents good value at his current price.
7. Immediacy (12)
A lightly raced and unbeaten son of Tarzino who has stepped up to each challenge laid in front of him so far in his short three start career.
He gets this opportunity at Group 1 level off the back of a dominant Group 2 win over 1800m at Caulfield, pulling away from his rivals in the straight to win by three lengths with a beautiful steer from Luke Currie.
I love that the stable has given him a month in between runs and although he will need to go to another level, he has an enormous amount of upside.
8. Cap Ferrat (9)
This colt is going far better than what his form on paper suggests and in both runs this campaign he’s had hampered runs in the straight but has shown good late sectionals.
He finished within a neck of Tom KItten in the Gloaming Stakes during the spring before finishing second to that same colt in the Spring Champion.
I’m not convinced 2000m is his best distance but he can run a nice race on class alone at a big price.
Ryan Moore has been booked so I’d keep him safe and include in multiples.
9. Ceolwulf (11)
Progressive colt out of the Joe Pride stable who was a part of the blanket finish in the Randwick Guineas, finishing just over a length behind Celestial Legend.
This will be his first go beyond 1600m which is a bit of an unknown and he’s one I’m happy to take on.
10. Ducasse (1)
Broke his maiden when first up at Warwick Farm over 1200m and is another that was not beaten far in the Randwick Guineas which is always a good form reference for this race.
Always shown ability and that he can mix it in black type company and although we have never seen him at 2000m, he does look over the odds.
11. Cosmic Lad (10)
Couldn’t have been much more impressive when scoring by 2.8 lengths at Newcastle in early February albeit a class 1.
Was far from disgraced in the Randwick Guineas but would need to have a career high rating to be competitive.
12. Steel Blaze (5)
Has been beaten in benchmark 55 company at Canberra this prep and I’m unsure why connections think he’ll be competitive in this race.
