Ranvet Stakes Tips - Who will win the Rosehill Group 1?
- Runner-by-Runner Guide to the Ranvet Stakes
- Who will take out the Rosehill Group 1?
- Will Think It Over and Via Sistina battle it out?
The Ranvet Stakes is a race for three-year-old’s and up run over 2000m at Rosehill under weight-for-age conditions.
First run way back in 1903 the Group 1 event has been won by some champion horses including Bernborough (1946), Gunsynd (1973) and Better Loosen Up (1990).
Another excellent field has been assembled and we’ve gone through every single runner below with best odds from Diamondbet.
1. Think It Over (2)
Caused one of the biggest upsets in recent times when toppling Fangirl in the Verry Elleegant Stakes a fortnight ago thanks in large part to an excellent steer by Nash Rawiller who climbs aboard again.
While the ride itself can not be understated, he is a top class individual who now has three Group 1s to his name and over $8 million in prize money.
Despite this, he continues to be underrated in my opinion and now gets out to his preferred distance where he has won six times from 12 attempts.
2. Military Mission (6)
Was a huge effort from this grey gelding to back up three weeks after a Melbourne Cup and dominate at Group 2 level by almost three lengths during the spring.
Finished just under two lengths off them at Listed level when resuming over 2000m at Randwick and he has three wins from five attempts second up from a spell and never missed a place.
Watch betting.
3. Buckaroo (3)
Former import who has failed to place since arriving in Australia in the spring.
He’s had four goes over 2000m during his career for two minor placings and was beaten just over two lengths behind Atishu in the Mackinnon at headquarters in November.
There’s no doubt he has ability but my suggestion is that I’d like to see him go clase in a race before taking such short odds.
4. Zeyrek (4)
Has won over a $1 million prize money but has failed to place in six goes at Group 1 level.
I’d suggest this is not his target and the small field is what appealed to the Hawkes team.
5. Bois D’argent (7)
Solid effort when resuming when a length off Serpentine at Listed level but this is a whole other kettle of fish.
It is not the strongest Group 1 I’ve seen but I can’t imagine him winning regardless.
Would need the sting out of the track to be competitive.
6. Via Sistina (8)
Chris Waller takes on this import and puts the daughter of Fastnet Rock straight into the deep end at Group 1 level in her Australian debut.
She’s only a lightly raced six-year-old mare who has won five races in her short 13 race career and three of those have been at 2000m.
She closed out her last campaign in England with a second in the Group 1 Champions Stakes, beaten less than a length behind King Of Steel who subsequently went on to be fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf in Santa Anita.
Would love to have seen her trial but both James McDonald and the early money have been very supportive.
7. Place Du Carrousel (5)
Earned her shot at the premier staying race in the world, the Prix De L’arc De Triomphe by winning five of her first nine starts but was well beaten and out of her depth.
The daughter of Lope De Vega has landed in the hands of the Freedman team and makes her Australian debut at Group 1 level.
She’s being kept safe in the market by punters but is one I’m happy to take on at the price with the foresight that she will improve on whatever she produces here and out in distance.
8. Riff Rocket (1)
Chris Waller has dual accepted for his star three-year-old for this as well as the Rosehill Guineas and is actually a similar price in both races.
He’s been incredibly consistent throughout his short career and although he failed to win the Australian Guineas as favourite, I thought the run was full of merit and he will be better getting out in distance now.
We’ll find out a lot about the horse should Waller attempt to take on the older horses horses especially at weight-for-age.
