The Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) at Randwick sees another chapter in the emergence of the new superstar of Australian racing.
Autumn Glow, unbeaten in nine starts, is shooting for a perfect 10 and is already being spoken about in Winx-like terms.
Her first-up performance in the Apollo Stakes (1400m) was breathtaking. She went 8.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark, the best last start figure of any runner here, and did it under a tight hold before ripping home in lightning sectionals. She can improve second-up and now steps to a mile, a distance that has already seen her win an Epsom Handicap.
Six runners come through that Apollo, including Aeliana and Lindermann, who filled the placings behind her. Aeliana, an Australian Derby winner, will relish 1600m, while Lindermann has a history of spiking sharply second-up – he went 12.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark when taking out the Chelmsford Stakes last prep, defeating Sir Delius.
Sir Delius is the clear danger. A dual feature race winner in the Underwood and Turnbull Stakes last spring, he has returned Timeform ratings that exceed most in the field. He resumes here over 1600m, which may be short of his best, but his class cannot be underestimated.
Ceolwulf was sixth in the Apollo and typically improves deeper into a campaign, while Trinity College adds intrigue as a European import. However, all roads lead back to the unbeaten mare.
Chris Waller has dominated this race in recent years and Saturday looks another chapter in that story.

Autumn Glow (3) can land just off the speed, exactly as she did in the Apollo. Ceolwulf (2) and Aeliana (1) should hold prominent positions from low draws. Sir Delius (6) may press forward or sit outside the leader, ensuring genuine tempo.
Lindermann (8) will likely settle midfield with cover, looking to build into the race from the 600m. The small field should ensure every runner gets their chance.

Autumn Glow is the best bet of the day and a multi anchor. She returned 8.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark first-up and can improve again at 1600m. Unbeaten in nine, with James McDonald aboard and a map that sees her stalking the speed, she simply looks a class above. Hard to see any of the beaten brigade turning the tables.

Lindermann appeals for the place. He was third in the Apollo and is fitter second-up, a scenario that saw him spike 12.4 lengths faster than standard benchmark when winning the Chelmsford Stakes last preparation. With Nash Rawiller aboard and a strong record at the Randwick mile, he looks the one most capable of filling the quinella or trifecta spots at value.
