The gun mare, Treasurethemoment, heads the betting at the $1.75 quote with Elitebet. Breathing right down her neck is the last start Underwood Stakes (1800m), runner-up, Buckaroo, at $2.50. 

The lightly raced seven-year-old, Globe, is a $9 shot, while this year’s Australian Cup (2000m) winner, Light Infantry Man is at $13. Hezashocka is the outsider of the field at $51. 

It appears to be a bit of a match race between the two favourites, who met as recently as two starts ago in the Memsie Stakes (1400m). Treasurethemoment was too good that day and put three lengths on Buckaroo, who ran home well for 3rd. 

Treasurethemoment then had a setback with a minor case of colic before doing all the chasing behind Pride Of Jenni when runner-up behind that horse in the Feehan Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley, going 11.6 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is superior to the 7.4 lengths faster that Buckaroo produced at his most recent start behind Sir Delius. That form has been franked, however, with the winner going on to claim the Turnbull Stakes (2000m) last weekend. 

Interestingly, Globe comes in with the best last start figure of any runner, having gone 12.6 lengths faster than standard. He has gone 12 lengths faster or more in all three of his runs and is definitely one to consider based on the times he has been producing. Light Infantry Man is no slouch either and should be ready to peak at his third runs back. A win from Hezashocka would be a shock. 

We might see a game of cat and mouse here in the small field. I expect Globe to lead, with Treasurethe Moment to play the stalking role. Hezasocka might slide in to sit behind her, while Light Infantry Man and Buckaroo will be saved for one last crack at them. 

While there was a minor setback in her preparation, the only concern is whether Treasurethe Moment is back to her best against seasoned rivals like Buckaroo. However, her class edge and high cruising speed should be a positive in the small field, while we can take confidence from her outstanding record of 10 wins and three runner-up’s from 13 starts. The manner in which she handled the new challenge by taking on older rivals in the Memsie Stakes confirmed her ability and the 2000m trip at Caulfield suits her perfectly. Damian Lane should be able to settle her in a comfortable position before unleashing late.

If you are an ‘odds-on, look on’ punter, Globe is the one to consider. He has done all the work in his three runs this time in, setting very fast tempo’s before going down by narrow margins late in the piece. He does have a fitness edge on his rivals in this race and if the other jockey’s get caught napping, the leader has the potential to open up a winning margin early in the straight.
