Might And Power Tips - Runner-by-Runner Guide for the Caulfield Group 1
- Might And Power race, also known as Caulfield Stakes, showcases the best under weight-for-age conditions
- Mr Brightside is the favourite, rock-hard fit after strong performances, aiming for victory
- Kalapour, Coco Sun, and Atishu present strong competition, each bringing unique strengths to the race
Named after one of Australia’s greatest horses, the Might And Power has also been known as the Caulfield Stakes.
Run under weight-for-age conditions over 2000m at Caulfield, the race was first run in 1886 and the winning honour roll includes Wakeful (1901,02), Bernborough (1946) and Winx (2016).
We’ve gone through the final field below and offer our thoughts and top four selections.
1.Mr Brightside (1)
The champ has had a similar campaign to what he did last year when beaten a head in the Cox Plate but this time he’s staying in Melbourne in the lead up.
Was excellent winning the Maykbe Diva but couldn’t quite reel in Pride Of Jenni at The Valley in the Feehan.
This is an easier task and he’ll be rock hard fit now.
2.Vow And Declare (5)
Was scratched last week at his favourite track Flemington once the rain hit so the stable has decided to run him in this instead.
This is still short of his preferred distance but he’s capable of producing a rating high enough to contend.
3.Kalapour (4)
The 2024 Group 1 Tancred Stakes winner is having his third run at 2000m this campaign as he looks forward to some bigger targets throughout the spring.
He was well beaten behind Eliyass at Randwick last time out but his third up record is very good and I wouldn’t be surprised if he filled a place.
4.Adelaide River (3)
Was beaten less than two length resuming in the Chelmsford Stakes behind Buckaroo but finished over 11 lengths back in the Kingston Town second up.
Would need to improve dramatically to be competitive.
5.Atishu (8)
She is going much better than her form on paper reads but she might be becoming a mare that sits back and runs on without threatening.
We know she is much better suited at Flemington than Caulfield and she has come up very short in the market considering the quick back up from last weekend.
6.Deny Knowledge (6)
Closed out her last campaign with a win in the Listed Grafton Cup and she didn’t threaten first up over 1800m.
Four goes at Group 1 level without placing and she is one I’m happy to take on.
7.Jennilala (7)
Got to within two lengths of Zougotcha in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic during the autumn but she did have just 51kg on her back that day.
Was well fancied in betting at The Valley two weeks ago but could only manage to finish seventh.
Out of her depth in an open Group 1 weight-for-age race.
8.Coco Sun (2)
Beat the boys in the South Australian Derby back in May and both runs this campaign have been full of merit.
Looked very dour in the Underwood Stakes but still worked to the line well and she’ll be looking for this extra trip now.
