Caulfield Guineas Tips - Broadsiding to be too good as roughie adds value to multiples

Broadsiding is clearly the one to beat and could not have been more impressive when taking out the Golden Rose, the third Group 1 of his short career. The Godolphin galloper settled off the speed and unleashed with the fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m to score from his stablemate, Traffic Warden. 

The son of Too Darn Hot went 8.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark and should only improve out to the 1600m. Mayfair was 3rd in that race, going down less than half a length, while Tropicus was 7th. Hard to see that pair turning the tables. 

Evaporate is one of those close up in the market and has been impressive this prepration, winning four on end, including victory in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley recently. 

The Team Hayes galloper settled just behind the speed before clearing out to win by a length, going six lengths faster than standard. He might need to set another personal best to defeat Broadsiding. Rue De Royale comes out of the same race and was 3rd but beaten more than three lenghts. 

The first five past the post in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) will be in action and the winner, Angel Capital, produced the fastest last 400m and 200m on what might have been the slower part of the track to score from Public Attention. 

The Clinton McDonald-trained galloper went 7.9 lengths faster than standard benchmark. Public Attention stuck on after a tough run to fill the exacta, while Wanaruah led before just fading late for 3rd. Feroce and Private Life dead-heated for 4th, finishing within a length of the winner. 

Broadsiding is a clear top pick and it is very hard to see him being beaten in the Caulfield Guineas. Unbeaten in three starts over the 1600m, he will improve off his Golden Rose triumph and a possible Cox Plate (2040m) birth beckons for him. The James Cummings-trained galloper draws barrier 9 and gets the services of James McDonald, who is smart enough to stay in touch should they crawl early on. But with the likes of Mayfair, Wanarauh and Feroce in action, I suspect the tempo will be even enough, setting proceedings up nicely for him. 

Private Life is the one in the market that might have snuck under the radar. The Chris Waller-trained galloper was 4th in the Guineas Prelude when stepping up from a BenchMark 64 win at Warwick Farm over the 1200m, carting 61.5kg but still too good for the likes of Lilac and Declichy Boulevard. He was well supported in the Prelude and settled midfield on a slow tempo, producing the fastest 400m-200m split before being out-kicked in the run home, producing the second fastest last 200m. The son of Written Tycoon will have improvement to come and looks to be a bit of value at the quote.
