The Group 1 All Star Mile (1600m) shapes as one of the highlights of the Flemington program on Saturday with a fascinating tactical battle likely to unfold.
Much of the intrigue surrounds Pride Of Jenni- will she deliver one of her devastating front-running displays?
At her best she simply breaks rivals with sustained pressure and she has already shown how explosive she can be first-up at her last two preparations.
She failed on Heavy ground at the track and trip in the Champions Mile (1600m) at her most recent run where she was well below her best, but her run the week prior on firmer ground in the Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) needed to be seen to be believed.
It might be D-Day for Treasurethe Moment, who hasnt quite delivered since producing a stunning first-up win when graduating to weight-for-age last year in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
She is second favourite in the market and was run down late by Pericles when resuming in the Futurity Stakes (1400m) with Buckaroo splitting that duo. The winner out of that won’t be in action in the All-Star Mile.
Five runnrs come out of the Caulfield Group 1 including, Evaporate (4th), Leica Lucy (5th) and Watch Me Rock (6th).
Stefi Magnetica and Antino come up from Sydney after contesting the Apollo Stakes, while Tom Kitten adds plenty of depth. The Godolphin galloper has become a genuine weight-for-age horse since being gelded and has been kept fresh for this after taking out the Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1400m) when resuming.
Sabaj and Steparty are others in the $2 million Group 1, which is Race 7 on the programme.
2026 All Star Mile Speed Map
Pride Of Jenni (8) is the obvious leader and should press forward early to take control of the race. Her racing pattern is built around sustained pressure and if she crosses comfortably she is likely to dictate the tempo.
Treasurethe Moment (10) and Steparty (5) have the speed to settle close to the lead, while Stefi Magnetica (9) and Watch Me Rock (6) can position just off the pace.
Buckaroo (2), Tom Kitten (1) and Antino (3) map to land in the midfield division where they can track the tempo and look to peel out approaching the home turn.
Leica Lucy (11) is likely to settle towards the rear before producing her closing burst late, while Sabaj (7) and the remaining runners may also concede a start.
If Pride Of Jenni is allowed to control the race through the middle stages before building from the 600m, it could quickly become a stamina test in the Flemington straight.
2026 All Star Mile Best Bet
Pride Of Jenni is a risk but her recent first up runs have been exceptional. This time a year ago she went more than 17 lengths faster than standard benchmark at Caulfield in weaker company over the 1800m before giving the likes of Treasurethe Moment and Tom Kitten windburn when fresh in the Feehan Stakes (1600m) last spring. Barrier 2 is a slight concern as she usually likes time to build into the lead from out wide but without too much pressure on the map in the middle stages, we might just see another memorable performance from the eight-year-old.
2026 All Star Mile Value Bet
Leica Lucy looks the value runner at odds. Her closing 5th in the Futurity Stakes first-up was full of merit off a slow tempo and she has previously shown her ability at the mile when unlucky in the Toorak Handicap. With a genuine tempo likely and Flemington’s long straight suiting her finishing style, she has the ability to charge into the finish if she settles early.
