Ipswich tips for 18.07.2020

The Queensland Oaks headlines the card at Eagle Farm this weekend with a great field of staying fillies assembled.

Run over 2400m at set weights the race was first run in 1951, the Group 1 race has been won by some very good fillies including Surround (1977), Ethereal (2001) and Winx (2015).

We’ve run through every runner below and offer our thoughts and top four selections.

1. Molly Bloom (10)

Won three of her last four races during her last campaign including the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas over 1600m.

The daughter of Ace High has been competitive in both runs this prep and made up good ground late behind Scarlet Oak in The Roses two weeks ago.

She’s never stepped out over 2200m but will be nearing peak fitness now at her third run and is one of the main chances.

3. Amazonian Las (18)

Was narrowly denied first up at Listed level but put the writing on the wall with a dominant win at her next start, winning by almost two lengths on a heavy track at the Sunshine Coast.

Went straight to the front in The Roses but was three wide in doing so which cost her some tickets, ultimately costing her when she faded right out of the race.

There’s no denying it was a concerning effort but at her best she can be competitive in this race.

4. Scarlet Oak (15)

Won her second race from just three starts when second up this campaign with a dominant 2.5 length win at Newcastle over 1600m on a heavy track.

She then backed that up with another solid win in The Roses at Doomben sky rocketing her into contention for the Oaks.

Chris Waller will be concerned with barrier 15 but he has the best jockey in the world James McDonald to navigate the correct path throughout the run,

5. Moonlight Magic (6)

Couldn’t have been any more impressive when winning at Group 3 level in New Zealand by 2.5 lengths and the win was that good the stable decided to tackle the boys in the Derby last weekend.

The ace was run to suit genuine, fit, staying horses and although she was no match for the winner she stuck on to run second, making up plenty of ground late in the race.

We know fitness won’t be a concern and she’ll get a nice run in transit from barrier six.

6. Mollyknickers (8)

Finished within half a length of Autumn Angel over 160m at Group 2 level in Melbourne back in March but has only placed once more from five starts since.

I have concerns she will run out a strong 2200m and I’m happy to take her on.

7. Socks Nation (11)

Won two of her first six starts but has failed to win in five starts since.

She has been up for a long time and hie she has been competitive in some handy races, this i a big ask.

8. Miss Joelene (22)

Has been a consistent performer and while she as managed to place in six of her 14 overall starts, she’s never far away in any of them.

Was 15th at the 800m in The Roses two weeks ago and rattled home late to et to within 0.6 lengths of Scarlet Oak on the line.

Main concern is the step up in distance as her breeding doesn’t suggest she is a stayer but hre class will take her a long way.

9. Ahuriri (21)

Another of the fillies at the top of the market who has drawn the car park but her talent can help her overcome it.

She was a dominant winner at Flemington two back over 2800m, scoring by 2.3 lengths.

She did have all the favours that day and was found wanting when stepping up to the Group 1 South Australian Derby against the boys.

Has come up a little short for my liking but wouldn’t surprise.

10. Good Banter (5)

Scored the second win of her short career when beating Autumn Angel at Randwick on a heavy track over 2000m.

The daughter of Tavistock had seven weeks in between runs before finishing three lengths behind Scarlet Oak in The Roses but will appreciate the step up to 2200m now.

Will have residual fitness from her autumn campaign and has drawn perfectly!

11. Mare Of Mt Buller (2)

Put together three wins in a row at the start of this campaign which prompted trainer Chris Waller to think a bit bigger with this daughter of Dundeel.

Has started double figures in her last three at black type level and placed in her last two including a narrow defeat in The Roses a fortnight ago,

She won’t start that price again and she is one that maps to get a lovely run in transit from a good barrier.

12. Our Gold Hope (13)

Has placed in six of nine overall and comes into this off the back of two really good performances at group level.

Fitness will not be a concern as she has her eighth start this campaign and she is one that look over the odds.

13. Oceans Of Energy (1)

Beat Mis Joelene over 1350m at Doomben earlier this campaign but has failed to be competitive at her next three starts.

BIg odds for a reason.

14. Kind Words (23)

Finished third behind Amazonian Lass on a heavy track at the Sunshine Coast two back and made up considerable ground in the straight in The Roses.

This Kris Lees trained filly has a heap of upside and will appreciate getting out over some ground now.

Despite the awkward draw she represents good value at her current price.

15. Gentileschi (4)

Put together three wins in a row by a combined seven lengths in NSW before finishing second behind Amazonian Lass last time out.

The daughter of Dundeel is bred to compete at a staying distance and is one that wouldn’t surprise at a big price with blinkers going on for the first time.

16. Unique Ambition (20)

Couldn’t have been much more impressive when scoring by 2.5 lengths first up at Newcastle over 1200m but then failed to handle the heavy track at her next couple.

Returned to the winners’ circle at Scone last start in a class 1 and although this is a considerable step up in class, she has natural talent and is bred to stay.

17. Concello (7)

Won a benchmark 64 at Hawkesbury earlier this prep and while she has raced consistently since, she will struggle at this level at this stage of her racing career.

18. Firestorm (12)

Has raced in black type company throughout the majority of this campaign and has managed to place twice in her last three trips to the race track.

Not the worst at a big price and is one for multiples.
