Gold Coast Tips for 19.01.2023

The Magic Millions Guineas is run over 1400m under set weights and penalties at the Gold Coast and is reserved for three-year-old’s only.

First run in 2005, some quality young horses have won the $3 million race including Gold Edition (2007), Sweet Idea (2014) and Alligator Blood (2020).

We’ve run through every runner below and offered our thoughts and betting plays.

1. Bittercreek (15)

Won the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes at The Valley but was no match for them in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Sir Rupert Clarke.

The son of Snitzel then closed out his spring campaign with a narrow defeat in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas and had a nice trial leading into this event.

2. Give Me Space (21)

Has missed a place only once in six career race starts which has also included three impressive wins.

None of those wins were as impressive as his victory in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate at his last outing and although he’ll be required to go another level, he’s a smart young horse.

3. Dawn Service (4)

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will saddle up this son of Justify for the seventh time and he is already a Listed race winner during the spring in Melbourne.

He finished just over two lengths from the winner in a benchmark 72 at Randwick just before Christmas and he’ll take plenty of benefit out of that run.

4. Catoggio (19)

Can’t knock his form this prep having won twice in Victoria and he did a lot of work in front when fading late in the Vo Rogue Plate at Eagle Farm.

Tim Clark may be forced to go to the front from the wide barrier but there isn’t many better front running jockeys in the entire country.

5. Depth Of Character (16)

Won two of his first three starts but really struggled during his spring campaign where he failed to finish.

Has been competitive at a high level but would need to find another level to be competitive in a race of this quality.

6. Snitzanova (9)

This is an exciting filly who comes into the biggest challenge of her short racing career having won her last three in a row.

She continues to step up to the level every time she is asked and I can’t find a reason why she won’t again in this event.

7. Bosustow (10)

Has just the one one win to his name from 11 career starts but he has been competitive ion some high level races including a narrow second in the Listed Amanda Elliot at Flemington last campaign.

Made up plenty of ground late first up from a long way back and will appreciate the step up in distance now.

8. Shangri La Express (14)

Won his first two starts and was then placed in both the Pierro Plate and Todman as a two-year-old.

Was gelded after a disappointing spring campaign and failed to fire first up in munich lesser company.

9. Street Chase (12)

Yet to miss a place in six career starts which includes two impressive wins at Doomben.

Sat on the speed in the Vo Rogue Plate and looked the winner only to be run down late in the race.

Racing well and fitness won’t be a concern.

10. King Of Roseau (3)

Peter Snowden saddles up this son of Capitalist and although he only has one win from 10 starts, he was narrowly denied in the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick back in October.

Started slowly at the Sunny Coast last Saturday but battled on well through the line and can improve.

11. Cosmic Fire (2)

Three wins from six starts during his short career and non were more impressive than his victory in the last at the Sunny Coast last Saturday.

He beat a smart one in Hezdarnhottoo in that event but they beat home the rest of the field by a further 1.8 lengths.

Step up to 1400m suits and he’s drawn to get a lovely run in transit from barrier two.

12. Hella Fast (8)

Won his first two at Eagle Farm over the short course of 1000m and was then beaten a length in both the Gold Edition and Vo Rogue.

Has seemingly gotten tougher as he’s stepped up in distance but he didn’t have a clear passage last time out so is worth forgiving.

13. Dance To The Boom (18)

Unbeaten daughter of Exceedance who took over at the 150m in the Gosford Guineas at Wyong last start and just kept going.

She’s shown herself to be versatile by sitting on the speed or going from back in the field which may be important considering the awkward draw in barrier 18.

14. Bauhinia (20)

Another filly that brings in winning form from Wyong but another that has drawn a horrible gate.

Finished just over a length back from Ameena in the Group 2 Silver Shadow at Randwick during a short spring campaign but she will be ready to go second up into this event.

15. Zoubaby (7)

Connections will be keen for a big race win having been so close in black type company in the past.

She wasn’t far away in a couple of nice races down south and finished 1.3 lengths off Give Me Space in the Vo Rogue second up.

Will be ready to peak now at this stage of her campaign and has drawn well.

16. Yes Lulu (17)

Was placed in her first three career starts and only three of her seven career starts have not been in black type races.

She broke her maiden at Caulfield two back and then earned herself a trip north with an impressive win in the Magic Millions Classic at Caulfield last time out.

Worth considering despite the horrible barrier.

17. Arriving Home (11)

Daughter of I Am Invincible who comes into her biggest challenge undefeated in two race starts.

She won a maiden at Warwick Farm before another narrow win at Randwick just before Christmas.

Big ask at start three but she’s clearly got ability.

18. Tuileries (23)

Peter Snowden and Tyler Schiller team up with this daughter of So You Think who has won both starts this campaign by a combined 5.2 lengths in Sydney.

She has an enormous amount of upside and although she has her work cut out for her from barrier 23, she may continue to step up to the level put in front of her.
