The All-Star Mile is the richest mile race in the world with $4 million in prize money up for grabs this Saturday at Caulfield racecourse.

Previously voted on, in part, by the public, the race has come under close scrutiny for a drop in quality; however last year’s winner Mr Brightside will be looking to defend his crown this weekend.

We’ve run through every runner below and offer our betting plays with best odds from EliteBet.

1. Mr Brightside (11)

Has put his hand up as the best horse in the country over the last year or so but he has always been such a consistent race horse.

Since his win in the All-Star Mile at The Valley last year he has won seven times from 10 starts and finished second on the other three occasions which included a narrow defeat in the 2023 Cox Plate.

Two Group 1 wins from two starts so far this prep and will be nearing peak fitness.

2. Cascadian (7)

Three-time Group 1 winner who has amassed over $8 million in prize money over his 51 start career.

His racing pattern makes it tough to win every time he goes to the races but there can be no doubt on the quality he possesses should the race pan out he wants.

He has failed to place in both starts this prep but the runs have been better than they look on paper and four of his 11 career wins have been third up from a spell.

3. Attractable (2)

This Sara Ryan trained five-year-old gelding is a progressive type who is racing in career best form of late and he gets his chance to win a the big cash on Saturday.

Led throughout when resuming at Group 2 level only to be run over in the last 200m but I loved his trial win at Wyong in between runs.

Linda Beech jumps on for the first time and will steer from barrier two.

4. Munhamek (10)

His win at Ascot over the summer was brilliant and he showed a quick turn of foot to weave through and win over 1400m.

He’s a horse that has been mixing his form in recent starts but is capable of producing a rating that would make him competitive for a minor placing.

Take on trust and watch betting.

5. Dom To Shoot (12)

Another that had a successful summer campaign in Perth beating Zaaki on his way to a maiden Group 1 victory.

His first up performance here at Caulfield behind Mr Brightside was fair and he’ll need to improve sharply to turn the tables on the champ.

6. Buffalo River (9)

Has been placed at Group 1 level in his last couple behind Mr Brightside including a very narrow defeat in the C.F Orr Stakes.

Seems to exclusively race at Caulfield now in his older years and this will be his 10th straight start at the venue.

There can be no question on his race fitness and you know he’ll settle in the first couple in running.

7. Pinstriped (1)

Finished second behind Mr Brightside first up last campaign and then went on to win at Group 2 level at his next start.

Has finished inside the top two in four of his five first up starts but has failed to place from two attempts at this track and distance.

8. Desert Lightning (8)

A race that in the past thrown up a numbers of intriguing runners unfortunately is lacking that aspect this year but this Kiwi raider may be the exception.

A Group 1 winner at the mile three starts back in New Zealand, he followed that with a dominant win over the very smart Legarto next time out.

This is a big step up in grade but he’s racing well and looks over the odds at a big price.

9. Ayrton (5)

Another runner who has a fantastic record at Caulfield having won six times from eight starts here.

One of those defeat however came against Mr Brightside just two starts back and he’d need to find something to beat him.

Was placed behind Atishu last start and he is a horse that makes his own luck on the speed.

10. Puntura (4)

Put together three black type wins in a row in New Zealand including his maiden Group 1 victory over 1600m.

Was well beaten behind La Crique last start but clearly has ability.

Drawn to go forward but there is a lot of speed in the race so may take a sit in behind.

11. Holymanz (3)

Progressive type who has recently moved over to the Ciaran Maher stable.

Found one better at Flemington last start in the form of Atishu at Group 2 level but the run was full of merit.

Is another that will be afforded the chance to settle in behind what looks a strong tempo up front which may be an advantage.

12. Pride Of Jenni (6)

A mare racing in career best form which was evident by the fact she won back to back Group 1s to close out her spring campaign.

She returned with a narrow defeat behind Mr Brightside in the C.F Orr Stakes over 1400m here at Caulfield and will be fitter for that run.

Has always had exceptional speed out of the barriers and got to the front quickly ahead of Aryton and Buffalo River in the Orr and considering she’s drawn inside, should dictate terms in front yet again.

The favourite has had another run since their last meeting so will she be race fit enough?
