The Tattersall’s Tiara is the final Group 1 of the racing calendar, run over 1400m at Eagle Farm for the fillies and mares.

The race was first run in 1989 and has been won by great horses including Dane Ripper (1997), Srikandi (2015) and Tofane (2021).

We’ve run through every runner in this year’s race below and offer our thoughts and betting selections.

1. Bella Nipotina (17)

Has finished within 2.3 lengths of the winner in all eight of her starts this campaign, seven of which have been at Group 1 level and the other was the rich Quokka in Perth.

Looked the winner in the Stradbroke until Stefi Magnetica fought back on the inside and any horse coming out of that race into this, will meet the champion mare worse at the weights.

A couple of issues I have are that she is better suited over the shorter distances in my opinion and she has drawn the car park.

She’s also come up very short in the market and I’m happy to take her on.

2. Semana (6)

The second the gates opened in the Stradbroke you knew she wasn’t there to win as Dylan Gibbons took her to the back and then let her run on in the straight.

She was nine weeks between runs going into that event, will take plenty of benefit out of that run and I loved the way she found the line late.

The Ciaron Maher trained mare is as consistent as they come and has drawn to get a lovely run in transit from barrier six.

3. Roots (8)

Wasn’t beaten far first up at Group 3 level at Rosehill over 1200m but followed that up with a disappointing effort in the Sangster at Morphettville.

She does her best racing when fresh and comes into this event with eight weeks in between runs but she has had five goes at Group 1 level for just the one placing.

4. Opal Ridge (5)

She has been a very consistent and well placed mare throughout her short racing career which is evident by her seven wins from 18 starts and four seconds.

The daughter of Rubick started this campaign with an excellent win at Scone at Listed level but was a touch disappointing behind Vilana at Group 2 level last time out.

If she can find a semblance of her best form she can be competitive especially from a good draw in barrier five.

5. Comrade Rossa (19)

Won a Listed race at Doomben during her last campaign which triggered connections to tackle some bigger races during this prep.

Has raced at Group 2 level twice this time in and while she has failed to place, she has been far from disgraced.

Produced the best final 600m of the race when beaten 2.7 lengths behind C’est Magique over 1300m last start and meets that mare 2.5kgs better at the weights.

6. Bubble Rock (15)

Placed in 17 of 21 career race starts in the United States before making the change of stable to Tony Gollan for this winter carnival.

She made her Australian Racing debut at Listed level at Eagle Farm when finishing third behind Chinny Boom where she faded late in the race.

Will take plenty of benefit out of that run and although she has been thrown into the deep end in this event, she has a fair amount of upside.

7. Vienna Princess (1)

Is very much a sit back and run on type of mare who did exactly that first up at Group 2 level.

She was 13th at the 400m on that occasion and made up a fair bit of ground late to finish eighth and two of her four career wins have been second up from a spell.

The inside draw is a concern but look for her late.

8. C’est Magique

Made a winning start to her career under the care of Chris Waller last start having been transferred from Graham Begg in May.
James McDonald gave her an excellent steer in that Group 2 win at Eagle Farm and he will pilot once again.

She has never started over 140m which is a slight concern and is being asked to carry 1.5kg more in this event.

9. Lekvarte (7)

Closed out her last campaign with a win at Group 3 level at Randwick beating the smart Osmose in the process.

She was slowly away when resuming at Group 2 level and laid in at the 800m which can be used as some excuse although she was never a threat.

She has won four from eight at this distance and six of her eight career wins have been on a good surface.

Over the odds.

10. Ausbred Flirt (12)

Started this campaign way back in March and has one win from five starts and that was a class 5 at Wyong.

She is capable of producing a high rating on her day which is evident by two placings at Group 2 and Group 3 level.

One of those placings was last start when beaten 1.4 lengths behind C’est Magique where she could have finished a lot closer with clear running.

11. More Secrets (11)

Another mare that is capable of a high rating at her best and she has four placings in black type company including one at Group 1 level.

She hasn’t shown her best recently but I like her trial win in between runs and she should be fit enough.

The blinkers have been added for this run and there’s no way she should be triple figure odds.

12. Zoe’s Promise (13)

Couldn’t have been any more impressive when scoring by four lengths first up in a benchmark 85 at this track and distance.
Has been a little disappointing at her last two outings when stepping up dramatically in grade but she is another one that wouldn’t surprise if she filled a place at a massive price.

13. Coco Jamboo (3)

Was placed in 12 of her first 14 career race starts in Europe before being transferred to the Snowden stable.

She made a winning start to her Australian racing career by winning at Group 3 level at Hawkesbury and then sat wide without cover last start in a Group 2.

She made up plenty of ground late in that race and she has drawn to get a much better run in transit from barrier three.

Big chance at nice each way odds.

15. Roll On High (4)

Broke through for her third career win at this track and distance in the Group 3 Fred Best two back against her own age group.

She beat home Stradbroke winner Stefi Magntica by a length that day but finished six lengths off her two weeks later.

Meets a mare like Bella Nipotina 4.5kg worse at the weights in this contest and although she has drawn well I’m concerned she’s up to this level of racing.

16. Abounding (18)

A consistent three-year-old filly who has been placed in 12 of her 15 career race starts, mostly against her own age and sex.

Did finish third behind C’est Magique two weeks ago and meets that mare 1kg better at the weights although I’m not sure that is the right form line to win this race.

17.  Miss Joelene (10)

Won a class 2 at Doomben first up back in April and has progressed through the grades well without winning since.

Finished third behind Scarlet Oak at Group 3 level two starts back and then placed in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks over 2200m two weeks ago.

The sharp drop in distance for this is a concern and she looks out of her depth.
