Here is our preview of the action
2025 TJ Smith Stakes Preview
The nations best sprinters line up in the TJ Smith Stakes.
Joliestar is favourite after the barrier draw and comes in with a last start Newmarket Handicap (1200m) win under her belt. She is one of two in the race for Chris Waller, who also saddles up Switzerland.
There is only one other last start winner in the field and that is Overpass, who resumes after taking out the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in Perth last November. The Bjorn Baker-trained galloper claimed the Sydney Stakes (1200m) at the track and trip when fresh last spring.
Briasa comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner with his 4th placing in the Galaxy (1100m) at his last start, reeling off the fastest late splits. He rises in weight due to the weight-for-age conditions of the TJ Smith Stakes.
Magic Time, Jimmystar and Sunshine In Paris are other strong fancies in the $3 million sprint that is one of four Group 1 races on the day.

Pace should be strong with Overpass likely to head forward, while Magic Time and I Am Me will also push up. Kimochi and Switzerland shouldn't be too far away. Briasa and Joliestar draw perfectly and can tuck in. Traffic Warden, Sunshine In Paris and Jimysstar might have to head back from their respective barriers.
2025 TJ Smith Stakes Best Bet
You could make a case for a stack of these. Joliestar, Sunshine In Paris and Overpass are all excellent chances, while Briasa certainly was an eye-catcher in the Galaxy. Switzerland might be the forgotten horse and has been written off somewhat after his 6th placing in the Canterbury Stakes (1300m). He was stepping up in trip from a 4th placing in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) and was posted wide without cover. It is worth noting that his career peak came when third up at his last campaign, smashing his rivals in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington when seven lengths on figures to go 16 lengths faster than standard benchmark. He was a winner at his only go over the Randwick 1200m and is right in this.
2025 TJ Smith Stakes Value Bet
Big discrepancy in the market between Jolistar and Headwall. The latter has done little wrong in his two runs this time in when an unlucky 4th when resuming in the Oakleigh Plate before his last start effort to run on strongly to fill the exacta behind Jolistar in the Newmarket Handicap. He has produced big figures in both of those and came home with the fastest last 400m and 200m. The downside is that he is worse off at the weights over Joliestar but this race should set up nicely for him and he might have improvement to come third up.
