2024 Moir Stakes Preview
It is the three-year-old, Lady Of Camelot, that is vying for favouritism with Estriella, while I Wish I Win is also solid in the market.
Horses aged three have a solid record in this race and Lady Of Camelot will be out to emulate another Golden Slipper (1200m) winner in She Will Reign, who took out the Slipper and the Moir in 2017.
Lady Of Camelot is one of three horses aged three in the race. The Waterhouse/Bott galloper went 7.6 lenghts faster than standard benchmark to take out the Slipper. Interestingly, her best figure came at her first run of the autumn when going 10.6 lenghts faster than standard to take out the Widden Stakes. The daughter if Written Tycoon comes in with two trials and defeated Giga Kick in the most recent of those, while there was a big gap back to the likes of Linebacker.
Coleman and Hayasugi are the other horses aged three. Coleman nearly claimed the Golden Slipper before being claimed late. Hayasugi was the Blue Diamond (1200m) winner, defeating Lady Of Camelot. She will out to become the first Blue Diamond winner to take out this race since Extreme Choice in 2016.
Six of the nine horses are first up, including I Wish I Win. He is the class runner and tackles the 1000m for the first time since finishing runner-up in the 2023 Black Caviar Lightning. The Moody/Coleman galloper was first up that day and flash home behind Coolangatta, going 13 lengths faster than standard.
He resumed with a 3rd behind Chain Of Lightning in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) last autumn. The stablemate is also resuming in this race and is one from one over the 1000m.
Estriella races for the first time since placing 5th in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville last autumn. She won three on the trot to kick start her preparation last time and should be respected after a dominant trial win last week. She went 11 lenghts faster than standard when winning first up over the 1100m at Caulfield last time.
Johnny Rocker, Mornington Glory and Caballus are the others in the field. Mornington Glory is capable of producing some solid figures and has won two on the trot at the track and trip. Johnny Rocker pushed Imperatriz over the 1200m at Moonee Valley in the autumn and has the potential to be a surprise packet. Caballus was a first up winner at his past prepration but would need to produce a personal best to trouble the favoured runners.

2024 Moir Stakes Best Bet
This is an intriguing race. Early money has come for Lady Of Camelot and I Wish I Win, while Estriella is on the drift. I Wish I Win is the proven open class performer and I am inclined to go with the six-year-old, provided he can jump cleanly. He was slow out of the blocks when first up last time, which cost him at the business end. But the son of Savabeel settled handy in his next two runs and was caught in the wrong part of the track in the Doomben 10000 (1200m) when narrowly missing behind Bella Nipotina before turning the tables on that horse in the Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m). Race should set up nicely for him with the pressure on a long way out, which brings his devastating finish into play.
2024 Moir Stakes Value Bet
Chain Of Lightning can perform well on the fresh side and has two wins and a couple of minor placings first up, while she went to the line untested in the autumn when 12th in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) beaten less than three lenghts. Keen to see her over the 1000m and she should get the run of the race from barrier 4, tucking in behind the likes of Estriella and Lady Of Camelot, who are likely to settle up front.
