Golden Slipper By Numbers - Facts, Figures & Betting Trends
- A look at the Golden Slipper history
- We crunch the numbers
The Golden Slipper is the richest race in the world run only for two-year-olds and will be run and won at Rosehill this Saturday.
Many believe the Group 1 event is the pinnacle of the Sydney Autumn racing carnival and punters far and wide are attracted to the race as a betting proposition.
What sort of horse does it take to win the race? Which form lines are the best to follow leading in?
We’ve completed our homework and offer a few stats to find the 2024 Golden Slipper winner! You can also read our Golden Slipper 2024 tips.
Golden Slipper Record Holder
Gai Waterhouse holds the record as the trainer to win the most Golden Slippers. She broke her father’s record, Tommy Smith, when Farnan secured her sixth win in 2020.
Incredibly she saddles up six runners (seven if Espionage makes the field) in this year’s event including the favourite Storm Boy.
Placed In Lead Up Run
26 of the last 30 winners of the Golden Slipper won or were placed in their final lead up run and five of the last six have won.
Seven horses come into the 2024 Golden Slipper having won their last start including unbeaten colt Switzerland.
Silver Becomes Gold
Winning the Silver Slipper has historically been a good guide to running well in the race.
Since 1998, 23 winners have gone to the Golden Slipper resulting in four wins, four seconds and three thirds.
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott’s colt Straight Charge won the race this year.
Unkind To Favourites
The race has not been kind favourites with just five of the last 30 winners being the ‘punters elect’ when the race jumped.
In saying this, a price between $5.00 and $10 is the sweet spot. Blue Diamond Stakes runner up Lady Of Camelot fits the profile perfectly.
