Golden Rose Stakes Tips - Linebacker to flourish over the 1400m at Rosehill in the Golden Rose

The race favourite, Broadsiding, resumes after an autumn and early winter campaign that saw him win two Group 1 races, including the Champagne Stakes (1600m) and the JJ Atkins Stakes (1600m). 

The Godolphin galloper took out the most recent of those by more than four lengths. He went three lengths faster than standard benchmark and is likely to need to produce a personal best. I think he will ease in the market in the lead up to the race and I am willing to risk the son of Too Darn Hot at the price. 

Seven of the 11 runners had their last start in the Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on September 14 and on that occasion it was Traffic Warden that got the upper hand late in the piece to defeat Anode in narrow fashion. 

The stablemate of Broadsiding was first up that day after an autumn campaign that saw him place 4th in the Golden Slipper (1200m) and runner-up in the Inglis’ Sires (1400m). He settled midfield and produced the second fastest last 600m and 400m. 

Storm Boy led before fading late to run 3rd. Linebacker produced the fastest last 400m and last 200m to place 4th and might be one that is best suited up to the 1400m. 

Emirate, Tropicus and Fearless are the other three that were in action in the Run To The Rose. Tropicus is another that was warming up late, coming home with the second fastest last 200m. 

Traffic Warden went 8.1 lengths faster than standard benchmark to claim the Run To The Rose, which is the second best last start figure of any runner, just behind the 8.2 lengths faster that Daggers set when 3rd in the Exford Plate (1400m) at Flemington at his most recent start. 

The Victorian visitor won his two starts prior to that and doesn't mind a track with a bit of sting out of it. We are likely to race on the Soft to Heavy range with rain predicted in the lead up to Saturday. 

Mayfair was runner-up behind Storm Boy when resuming in the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) and has since finished a narrow runner-up in the Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) when attempting to lead all the way. He is another that will appreciate some sting out of the ground. 

I am willing to take on Broadsiding. Loved the run of Linebacker in the Run To The Rose and the step up to the 1400m should suit the John O’Shea & Tom Charlton-trained galloper, who improved four lengths on benchmark figures to score second up at his debut campaign over the 1400m at Rosehill in the Ballieu back in March. Broadsiding was 3rd in that race, beaten over two lengths. Pace looks solid in this race with a number to head forward and that should suit the son of Super Seth. 

Tropicus has been crying out for 1400m or even further and was excellent first up over the 1100m in the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) when 3rd before really only warming up late in the Run To The Rose late in the piece, clocking the second fastest last 200m to place 6th, beaten just under three lengths. The Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper was excellent on a Soft track on debut at Caulfield back in May and just needs a bit of tempo in the race to be a major factor, while we must respect the stable.
