The Australasian Oaks is run over 2000m at Morphettville for three-year-old fillies run at set weights.
The Group 1 race was first run in 1983 and while it rarely attracts the best staying fillies, some of note to win the race have been Rozse Of Kingston (1982) and Sopressa (2018).
We’ve run through every runner in the race and offered our thoughts and top four selections in the race below.
1. Pulchritudinous (7)
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable had a successful autumn and they saddle up their newly acquired filly from New Zealand for a tilt at another Group 1 for the team.
The daughter of Wrote comes into this contest on the back of two wins in a row, the latest of which came over 2400m in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks in March.
Her new stable has sure to have brought her on a bit and on exposed form she has a class advantage on a few of these.
2. Wings Of Song (9)
The Patrick Payne trained filly is shooting for her seventh consecutive win including a two lengths win at this track at Group 3 level last time out.
Incredibly she is yet to have a spell in her entire career and has been passed around from trainer to trainer before landing with Payne in February.
She’s a mare in form and there’s no doubting her fitness level!
3. Positivity (8)
Another Kiwi raider who comes over the ditch in good form.
She won a Group 3 race at Ellerslie over 2100m before finishing second behind Pulchritudinous in the Oaks last time out.
This is still her debut campaign and she is having her seventh start.
Is this all too much for her too quickly or is she thriving?
4. Seransana (3)
This daughter of Snitzel has been placed in four of her nine career starts which has included two wins.
She couldn’t have been much more impressive when scoring a 2.5 length win at Group 2 level to close out her last campaign and although she is yet to win this time in, she has a fair amount of class.
Drawn well and looks well over the odds based on previous ratings.
5. Queen Of Dragons (2)
Put the writing on the wall with an impressive win in the Kembla Grange Classic before finishing 2.7 lengths off Orchestral at Group 1 level over 2000m last time out.
That form is more than good enough to be competitive in a race of this quality and she has drawn to get a gun run in transit from barrier two.
Must be considered at double figures.
6. Vibrant Sun (12)
Won her maiden at Geelong by eight lengths last campaign before finishing 5.2 lengths off the winner in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m.
Was beaten by a length first up at headquarters and then backed that up with a nice win at Group 3 level last time out.
She was only a narrow winner that day at The Valley but they beat the third horse home by a further four lengths.
7. Mollynickers (15)
This three-year-old filly has been a consistent performer throughout her short racing career placing six times from nine starts.
She was beaten half a length behind Autumn Angel at Group 2 level earlier this prep and that horse of course went on to win the Group 1 Oaks at Randwick.
Her first time at 2000m but you can’t discount her considering just how well Peter Moody and Kathy Coleman are training at the moment.
8. Coco Sun (4)
Shooting for three wins in a row and her fifth at just her 10th career start.
Both starts this prep have been in a much lower grade and at the shorter distances but it’s the way in which she has put her rivals away that impresses the most.
She’ll appreciate the step up in distance now and so long as she continues to take steps forward, she’s a winning chance again.
9. Qali Al Farrasha (19)
Comes out of the same form lines as the other kiwis that have been sent over and she managed to finish third in the New Zealand Oaks at her last outing.
She has just one win from seven career starts but has missed a place only once.
Barrier doesn’t help but she has to be considered if you believe this is the right form to follow.
10. Quickster (14)
The second of Peter Moody’s fillies in the race and this daughter of Shamus Award doesn’t know how to run a bad race.
She’s been placed five times from seven starts including all four this campaign and she has a win at this track just two starts back.
Another performance rating spike will be needed but you know she’ll be giving it her all.
11. Concello (6)
Chris Waller and James McDonald partner this daughter of Trapeze Artist for this Group 1 event.
She got the job done at Hawkesbury in a benchmark 64 two back and then she managed to place in behind Good Banter and Autumn Angel on a heavy track last time out.
She’s drawn well but I have my doubts on her talent as well as the step up to 2000m.
12. Private Legacy (10)
Broke through for her maiden win earlier this prep at Kembla Grange over 1600m but has since failed to place in two Group 3 events.
She was far from disgraced in those two black type races and with natural improvement, she can be competitive at a big price.
13. Into You (11)
Put together back to back wins earlier this campaign by a combined 5+ lengths at Ballarat and Sandown.
She then stepped up to Group 2 company where she was far from disgraced and was only narrowly beaten in a benchmark 70 last time out.
Another that appeals at a big price.
14. The Autumn Belle (16)
A progressive gilly who comes into this race at her seventh start this campaign so fitness should not be a concern.
Suffered the first unplaced finish of her career last time out when beaten 4.5 lengths behind Wings Of Song here at Morphettville.
Looks tested at this grade.
15. Bon Mistress (5)
Hasn’t shown anything to suggest she’d be competitive in a race of this quality.
16. Infinity Imperial (17)
Broke through for her maiden win at Pakenham by 1.8 lengths over 2000m last time out at her third career start.
She would need to take another dramatic rise in class but she has a fair amount of upside.
