Best Bet - Verry Elleegant
An eight-time Group One winner that has developed into a world class galloper after having her faults early days, Verry Elleegant is still comfortably the best middle-distance runner in the country and has become somewhat bombproof in regards to conditions.
She added yet another string to her bow in last year's Winx Stakes, winning first-up at 1400m and it was an outstanding victory under the circumstances, where the champion continued to find late despite racing three-wide for the entirety of that journey.
Her July 27 trial behind the speedy Stay Inside was every bit as good as to what we've seen from her prior to previous campaigns, and although wary that she's not set to peak until deeper into the spring, I'm not in a hurry to back those closest to her in the market here.

Value Bet - Imaging
A stable mate to the favourite is this import that Chris Waller does like to keep on the fresh side these days, and he's been very unlucky over his last few campaigns (arguably should've won this race last year which followed a big fresh effort behind Eduardo).
Following the 2020 spring, Imaging was three-wide the trip in the Group One CF Stakes first-up in February, a feature he no doubt would've won had from a better gate and the six-year-old wasn't suited at all after that when dropping in trip for the Newmarket.
There was plenty of merit in his last start Stradbroke performance after copping a little squeeze early which put him out of winning calculations and given his prior trials, I wouldn't look much into the August 3 hit out in Brisbane when he was just there to go around.

Roughie - Brandenburg
Although I always felt he was a little overrated throughout his three-year-old season, this gelding was very still very competitive in that period, winning first-up over 1400m, the same pattern he's attempting this Saturday off two strong trials at Randwick.
Despite giving every impression early in his career that he would get a trip, he is clearly a much more effective galloper around the seven and eight furlong range, which his record now clearly supports (two of his three wins have come at this trip).
At weight-for-age level, he's obviously still a big query hence his quote, albeit we've seen horses like Think It Over dispel those doubts in recent times and given there's little speed on paper, Rachel King could well roll forward and follow Dreamforce early in the race.

Verdict
Verry Elleegant is getting short, but you could make that argument a stronger one for her rivals that are under 20/1, so she certainly deserves outright favouritism.
Imaging is a good each-way price while at longer odds, Brandenburg is worth including for the exotic players.
