The Winx Stakes is the first Group 1 of the Sydney Spring Carnival and Funstar and Melody Belle who have been installed as favourites for the 2020 edition of the Randwick Group 1 on August 22.

Funstar, who like three-time winner Winx is trained by Chris Waller, won twice during the last Spring Carnival including in the Group 1 Flight Stakes. Also a winner in the autumn in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes, she is the $6.00 joint-favourite with bookmaker Sportsbetting.

Melody Belle is also at $6.00 with the Kiwi mare looking for her first win since landing four Group 1s in a row last Spring. She won the Tarzino Trophy, Windsor Park Plate, Livamol Classic and Empire Rose Stakes but has been out of luck since.

The Team Hawkes-trained Master of Wine sits of the third line of betting at $8.00. The former UK-trained runner is seeking a first Australian Group 1 victory and is among the fancied runners for the Winx Stakes.

Ageless eight-year-old Dreamforce is the other runner at single figure odds, with $8.50 available for the veteran to win. He won a first Group 1 in the autumn when taking out the George Ryder Stakes at Randwick and will be back for another crack at a big prize.
