William Reid Stakes Tips - She’s Bulletproof to thrive at the Valley in William Reid Stakes

Here is our preview of the action

Jimmystar heads in as favourite for the William Reid Stakes after his last start win in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and is one of three contenders to come out of the Caulfield Group 1, alongside She’s Bulletproof (2nd) and Arabian Summer (5th).

Jimmystar was first up that day and had plenty of acceleration late in the piece, going 32.98 seconds over the last 600m and 17.2 lengths faster than standard benchmark. She’s Bulletproof went for home slightly early but stuck on well to land just over a length away.

Four contenders come out of the Newmarket Handicap (1200m), including Stretan Angel, who was 3rd. Benedetta, Maharba and Rey Magnerio all finished out of the top 10.

Stretan Angel ran on well from back in the field to go 10.7 lengths faster than standard. Benedetta and Rey Magnerio had some excuses and must be respected for this assignment, despite being well beaten last time.

Schwarz dropped out of it in the CF Orr Stakes (1400m) last time but is a different beast over the 1200m and took out the Australia Stakes (1200m) at the track and trip prior to that, going 7.8 lengths faster than standard. Reserve Bank needs to show more and is the other runner in the field.

Schwarz led all the way in the Australia Stakes and is the likely leader. Maharba and Rey Magnerio might settle handy, while She’s Bulletproof will attempt to find a spot in the front half early on from her draw. Reserve Bank is another that could go forward. Jimmystar, Benedetta and Stretan Angel are likely to settle back in the field.

Going with She’s Bulletproof in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes. The consistent mare from the Charlotte Littleifield stable was swamped late by Jimmystar in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) last time when runner-up and meets that horse again, but her four wins have come over the 1200m, while she flies around the Moonee Valley circuit. I expect her to settle in the first half with Craig Williams on board and she should be hard to hold out late in the piece.

Willing to have something each-way on Rey Magnerio. He went too hard early on and was keen in the Newmarket Handicap before pulling up with an issue. The Robbie Griffiths-trained galloper wasn't far from Jimmystar prior to that in the Oakleigh Plate and is slightly better at the weights, while he should enjoy the run of the race from barrier 4.
