Briasa surged into The Everest spotlight with a powerful win in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes during the Sydney Autumn Carnival, confirming his status as one of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming sprinters. A lightly raced grey gelding with seven wins from ten starts, Briasa combines early pace with a serious finishing burst—a profile tailor-made for the high-pressure 1200m at Randwick. His early slot confirmation allowed his connections to shape a spring campaign solely focused on Everest success, with one or two tune-up runs planned in Sydney. Unlike Ka Ying Rising, the Team Hawkes galloper has the benefit of experience at Randwick. With scope for further improvement as an older horse, he stands out as the leading local hope to claim the Everest.

Alot of water needs to flow under the bridge but it might be worth considering an up and coming galloper, given the record of three-year-olds in the race. Yes Yes Yes (2019) and Giga Kick (2022) scored as youngsters in the Everest, accounting for two of the eight edition’s run so far. Tentyris shapes as an exciting three-year-old after defeating Wodeton earlier this season—form that was heavily franked when Wodeton ran a bold second in the Golden Slipper (1200m). With the potential light spring aimed at peaking on Everest day, the son of Street Boss shapes as a solid wildcard, provided things go to plan early on in his return races.
