Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Tips - Each-way contender looks value in the Rupert Clarke Stakes

It is Jimmystar that just pips Another Wil for favouritism after the barrier draw. Those two fought out the Group 2 Damien Oliver (1400m) on Derby Day at Flemington with Another Wil overcoming traffic and getting the upper hand late in the piece. 

Jimmystar meets the winner 1.5kg better at the weights and has over a length to make up. He is unbeaten in two goes at the track and trip. Another Wil’s win came off a slow early tempo. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper produced the fastest last 200m to go 7.3 lengths faster than standard benchmark. 

War Machine (8th) and Southport Tycoon (9th) come out of the Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill. Southport Tycoon was set a task from well back that day but ran on well late in the piece to finish three lengths off the winner. The Manikato Stakes (1200m) winner carts top-weight of 58kg for this. 

Charm Stone is an interesting runner and comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner, having gone 12.3 lengths faster than standard when 3rd in the Rising Fast Stakes (1200m). That was just her second run in a year. 

Pace could be interesting in this race with Buffalo River to set up a healthy tempo, while Gentleman Roy and Tuvalu are others thay like to kick up. Another Wil might be just behind that trio. Jimmystar draws the inside and will shuffle back. Southport Tycoon draws wide and is likely to get back. 

I am keen on Charm Stone at the each-way quote in the Rupert Clarke Stakes. The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper might be a bit untapped. She was excellent over the 1200m at Caulfield when first up after more than a year off, producing the fastest last 600m before producing a bit of an eye-catcher at Flemington in the Rising Fast Stakes (1200m) when 3rd in a blanket finish behind Maharba and Rey Magnerio. The runner-up out of that has since won. She comes in with the best last start benchmark figures of any runner in this race. Third up last year, the daughter of I Am Invincible improved a couple of lengths at this stage to finish a one-length 5th in the Golden Rose. She draws perfectly in barrier 3 and drops to the 52kg. 

Jimmystar didn't have things pan out for him in the Damien Oliver at Flemington, getting back from the wide barrier in a race where they went very slow up front. He produced the fastest splits from the 600m to the 200m, breaking 22 seconds for this section but could not reel in Another Wil, who benefitted by sitting on the speed. Unbeaten in two goes over the Caulfield 1400m, the Ciaron Maher galloper should enjoy a much better tempo this time around and just needs the gaps to open at the right time from barrier 1 with Damian lane to ride.
