2025 Australian Cup Preview
Pride Of Jenni is favourite for the Australian Cup and looked back to her best, trouncing her rivals when fresh in the Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on March 15.
The seven-year-old ran quick time to go 16.9 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is up there with some of her best performances.
Zardozi is the only other runner to come out of the race and produced the fastest last 400m and 200m to finish just under three lengths away, while there was a similar margin back to 3rd.
Deny Knowledge creates interest and might be up there early on with Pride Of Jenni. She has had one run this time in for a tough win over the 2000m, conceding weight to a number of rivals.
Feroce steps up from an Australian Guineas (1600m), going 12.7 lengths faster than standard and is the only three-year-old in the race. Attrition comes in with four weeks in between runs and finished ahead of Zardozi when runner-up in the Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington.
Atishu is one to watch and steps up to the 2000m for the first time this prep. She likes the track and trip and was a last start 5th in the All-Star Mile (1600m). Light Infantry Man was 3rd in that race.
Middle Earth made a huge impression at his local debut when taking out the Australian Cup Preview (2000m). The Ciaron Maher import was back on a slow tempo before reeling in Duke De Sessa. He should have improvement to come and can be a challenger.
2025 Australian Cup Speed Map
This will be interesting with Pride Of Jenni a chance to be joined up front by the noted front-runner, Deny Knowledge. Feroce and Young Werther will be handy. Speed might play into the hands of the likes of Atishu and Zardozi, who tend to always settle worse than midfield. Middle Earth should settle just ahead of that pair.
2025 Australian Cup Best Bet
She might have had a few hiccups in the spring but we have to take Pride Of Jenni’s first up performance on face value. She was ‘retired’ after a bleeding attack but the stable ended up keeping her in work with her stats and figures as good as ever. This was evidenced by her run in quick time at Caulfield. She has a history of improving with a run under the belt, while she has saved some of her best for the 2000m.
2025 Australian Cup Value Bet
Atishu will get the race run to suit, which didnt happen in the All Star Mile when they went slow early on. She closed off with the second fastest last 200m and her run was better than it looked on face value. The Chris Waller mare has had five goes over the 2000m at Flemington for two wins and two placings, the most recent of those coming behind Via Sistina in the Champions Stakes last spring. She comes into this third up and was an eight length improver on benchmark figures at this stage of her last preparation. Look for her to be coming hard at them late in the piece.
