Sydney Spring Racing Carnival Betting tips

Golden Rose
Kerrin McEvoy wins on The Autumn Sun in the Golden Rose Stakes on September 22, 2018.
The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival is the one time that NSW will willingly take a backseat to Victoria.

With the eyes of the world on Melbourne for the spring, Sydney’s racing scene continues to work, with a number of group races and high profile events.

Since the inception of The Everest and the newly implemented Golden Eagle however, Sydney is attempting to wrestle back some the gloss from the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Sydney Spring Racing Carnival Odds

While not as well supported as the Melbourne spring, Sydney’s key fixtures during the warmer months usually have markets installed months prior to the race date.

Check our tables below for markets on the key Sydney Spring Carnival races.

Sydney Spring Racing Carnival Field

Depending on the race, fields will be set just a week before the start date, or in the case of The Everest the final field could be set in stone much earlier.

The Everest is decided by a slot system, which means the owners of the 12 slots in the race get to pick which runners will take to the field. Other races like the Golden Rose have fields that require a certain rating or prize money to make the field.

Sydney Spring Racing Carnival Form Guide

It is hard to predict how the spring carnival will pan out this early, but we will keep our readers updated of which runners we believe can make an impact in Sydney.

The Everest is slightly easier to predict however, with the best sprinters in the land usually maintaining their form throughout the year.

Peter and Paul Snowden-trained runner Redzel won the race on back-to-back occasions, while Godolphin gun Osbourne Bulls put his hand up to take part in the 2019 edition of the race with a stunning third in 2018.

Sydney Spring Racing Carnival Bet of the day

We think Redzel will take a crack at registering a third-straight Everest title and will be very hard to beat.

On his day the gelding is one of the best sprinters in the world and at periods throughout 2017 and 2018 he looked like he was nigh on unbeatable.

It will be up to the slot holders as to whether or not they get the great gelding back, but if Redzel runs in the 2019 Everest he will be hard to beat.

Sydney Spring Racing Carnival history & key facts

The autumn is where Sydney really shines but Racing NSW is making a concerted effort to bring its spring program up alongside Melbourne in terms of quality.

Sydney knows it cannot compete with the history and tradition of Melbourne’s spring, but they’ve thrown millions of dollars in prizemoney with The Everest and the newly formed Golden Eagle race to keep garner attention away from their southern neighbours.

Whether both endeavours will stand the test of time remains to be seen, but it is evident that Sydney is serious about competing with Melbourne’s spring.
