Race 4: No.6 My Charm
The Chris Waller-trained galloper is in good touch after two starts back and looks a strong chance here for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Capitalist mare showed plenty of improvement off her first-up effort when she clobbered her rivals in a BM64 Hcp over 1800m at Hawkesbury.
James McDonald settled her back in the field to the turn before circling the field and in the run home, wore down the tearaway leader then went on to score by more than two lengths on the line.
Stepping-up to BM72 grade here, she draws barrier eight and maps to settle back in the flield with Tommy Berry as the new pilot.
Fitter here and already a back-to-back winner (last preparation), the four-year-old looks up to the challenge and is well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
Race 5: No.6 Pierata’s Gem
The Team Archibald-trained galloper has impressed in four starts back this preparation and should now be ready to produce her best in this event.
Last start, the Pierata mare put in her best effort this campaign when she beat all but one home in a BM72 over 1550m at Canterbury.
Ridden a treat by Zac Lloyd, from gate one she was box-seating on settling to the turn, then scored a dream run along the fence as the leader shifted out, and boxed-on strongly in the run home, claiming second prize on the line.
Meeting similar company here over the same trip, she draws well in gate three and maps to settle mid-field or better with Tommy Berry having his first ride on the mare today.
At her peak and with conditions to suit, the five-year-old can figure in the finish of this contest.
Race 7: No.7 Komodo Dragon
The O’Shea & Charlton Team saddle-up the five-year-old here and second-up today, should take a ton of beating in this event.
Last start, the Hellbent gelding resumed after more than eight months off the scene and impressed when he beat all but one home in a BM72 Hcp over 1250m at Canterbury.
Slowly away, he recovered to settle mid-field on the fence to the turn before putting in the big ones and chased the leader all the way home but lacking race fitness was unable to bridge the gap, taking home the silver medal for the race.
Fitter for that run back, he draws out in gate ten here and maps to cross and settle mid-field or better with Zac Lloyd retaining the ride.
Already a winner when second-up and placed at his only start here, he looks the testing material in this contest.
