Race 6: No.3 Impendor
Matt Dunn saddles-up Impendor here who is third-up and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can be there at the finish of this event at odds.
Last start, the Impending gelding was second-up and showed a ton of improvement when he beat all but one home in a Class 4 Hcp over 1200m at Ipswich.
Jett Newman settled him mid-field, one off the fence to the turn before tracking wide on straightening, then finished strongly enough to grab the silver medal in the race, beaten just half a length on the line.
Dropping back to Class 3 company here, he draws ideally in gate and maps to settle mid-field or better on the fence with Newman in control again.
Against easier opposition and fitter for those two runs back, the six-year-old looks a little over the odds for this assignment and is quite capable of spoiling the party in this contest.
Race 8: No.3 Street Chase
The Jack Bruce-trained galloper is second-up here and looks well placed to fight out the finish of this event.
Last start, the Zoustar gelding resumed off a 20-week break and wasn’t disgraced when finishing third in a Class 3 Plate over 1200m at Doomben.
Drawing out in gate six, Taylor Marshall worked him forward where he finally settled outside the leader, then after taking the field up to the front-runner, he kept on chasing in the run home and was gallant in defeat, just out-bobbed for second prize on the line.
Stepping-up in grade here, he takes on Class 3 company over the shorter 1000m trip where he draws gate nine and maps to cross and settle in the first half-dozen in the race with Marshall in the saddle again.
A track specialist here, the five-year-old is also a winner when second-up and fitter for that first-up effort, looks a serious contender in this contest.
Race 9: No.10 Dominant Darcy
The Tony Gollan-trained galloper is unbeaten on wet tracks and third-up here has strong claims for victory in this event.
Last start, the Zousain mare was second-up when she found the podium by finishing third in a BM78 over 1200m at Doomben.
Dipped at barrier rise, she recovered quickly enough to be box-seating on settling to the turn, then in the run home, never stopped chasing and was only beaten half a length on the line.
From gate six, she maps to cross and settle in the first half-dozen with Emily Lang returning for te ride, after steering the mare to victory three times previously.
Already a winner when third-up, the five-year-old has saluted twice from as many starts on wet tracks and with a trouble-free run here, looks the testing material in this contest.
