Race 3: No.2 Master Payment
The Dennis Yip-trained galloper has impressed in two starts to date and is well placed here to break through for his first win in this event.
Last start, the Australian-bred gelding came off a debut runner-up effort when he repeated the effort by finishing second again in a Class 4 Hcp, here over the 1000m sprint.
Down the straight course, he drew the outside gate and was trapped wide without cover but still ran home strongly to beat all but one home in the 14-strong field with Zac Purton aboard.
Stepping-up to the 1200m trip today, he gets the gun-run from gate one and will most likely settle just behind the speed on the fence with Purton in the saddle again.
Fitter and more experienced after those first two runs, a clear passage to the line here should see him hard to hold out.
Race 9: No.6 Effortless Win
The Frankie Lor-trained galloper is also having his third race start today and unbeaten in his first two runs, looks well placed here for the hat-trick in this event.
After winning his maiden on debut at Doomben (in Australia), the Anders-sired gelding then stepped-out onto the Sha Tin track for the first time and made it back-to-back wins when he took out a Class 3 Hcp over 1200m.
Jerry Chau had the reins that day and settled him third, one off the fence before challenging the leader on straightening where he fought strongly in the run home, gaining the upper hand in the end to claim a narrow victory on the line.
Nicely drawn in gate three here, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Chau retaining the ride for this assignment and with a trouble-free run, he should be there at the finish in this contest.
Race 10: No.6 Rising Force
Ricky Yiu saddles-up Rising Force here who has not missed a top-two finish in six starts this preparation and ticks all the boxes here that suggest he can continue that trend in this event.
Last start, the Deep Field gelding gave another 100% effort when he beat all but one home in a Class 2 Hcp over 1200m at Happy Valley.
Regular rider Richard Kingscote was aboard that day and settled the gelding fourth, one off the fence, before tracking wide on the turn, then ran home strongly but was unable to reel in the ($58) winner, who posted a red-hot 1:08.9 for the trip.
He clashes with the same galloper (Victor The Winner) here but meets him 3kgs better at the weights and draws inside him as well.
From gate two, he maps to be parked right behind the speed with Kingscote in pride of place and boasting three wins and four minor placings from his eight starts at the track and trip, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 11: No.7 Chill Easy
Another from the Ricky Yiu stables is Chill Easy who is third-up today and looks ready to win in this event.
Last start, the Irish-sired gelding went one better than his first-up effort when he beat all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1400m.
Unable to go the early speed, Jerry Chau settled him mid-field and was trapped wide to the turn before tracking wider in search of clean air, then in the run home, fought on gamely to finish second, beaten by one better on the day.
Ideally drawn in gate three today, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover this time and has Chau on board again for this assignment.
Placed twice here this preparation, he strips fitter with those two efforts behind him now and should be ready to claim his first Sha Tin victory in this contest.
