The Robert Knight-trained galloper has found his mojo this time in and looks set to go on with it in this event.
Last start, the Fiorente gelding was third-up and hit his best form when he took out a Class 1/Maiden Plate over 2245m at Grafton.
On a Soft 6 that day, he settled mid-field behind a tearaway leader before tracking wide on the turn, then in the run home, took control inside the final 200m and went on to score comfortably in the end with Bailie Baker aboard.
Dropping back to the 2000m trip today, he draws gate five and maps to settle better than mid-field with Mollie Fitzgerald taking the reins for this assignment.
Fourth-up and at his peak today, the four-year-old can frank that last start win and repeat the dose in this contest.
Race 7: No.4 Cool Fizz
Brett Dodson saddles-up Cool Fizz here who resumes after six months off the scene but ticks the boxes that suggest she will be a force in this event.
Last start, the Deep Field mare ended a successful campaign when she came off back-to-back wins and beat all but one home in Open company over 1000m at Bowraville.
With Grady Spokes aboard, she settled second in the small field (four lengths behind the leader), then in the run home, gave the front runner too much start and had to settle for second prize, still taking ground off the winner, beaten just half a length on the line.
Returning to work recently, she won a Port Macquarie trial over 1010m, setting her for this preparation as she returns to the track, down in grade, facing BM66 company first-up.
From gate five, she maps to settle just behind the speed with Spokes in the saddle again and already a winner when first-up, she looks a solid each-way show in this contest.
Race 8: No.9 Smashing Nova
The Kris Lees-trained galloper is second-up today and in winning form, can get the job done in this contest.
Last start, the Brave Smash gelding resumed of a 17-week spell and did it in style by scoring his first win, taking out a Maiden Hcp over 1210m at Port Macquarie.
Well ridden by regular rider Will Stanley, he was box-seating on settling to the turn before leaving the fence and coming off heels, then in the run home, got the better of the two leaders and went on to score well in the end as the $2.90 favourite.
Fitter for that first-up win, he draws well in gate three today where he maps to be parked right behind the speed and after three runner-up finishes over this track and distance, he looks set to go one better here and grab the glory in this contest.
