Race 3: No.8 Took Gardner
The Stuart Padman-trained galloper has done everything but win in his two starts to date but looks all set here to go one better in this event.
Last start, the Sir Prancealot gelding made it two-straight runner-up finishes when he beat all but one home in a Maiden Plate over 1350m at Strathalbyn.
Alysha Warren settled him two pairs back where he overraced for the first half of the event before settling down and on the turn, secured a dream rails run and finished off strongly, but was out-gunned near the line by one better on the day.
Drawn well in gate five here, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Warren retaining the ride for this assignment.
Stepping up to the 1400m here and fitter for two runs, the three-year-old gets his chance to break through in this contest.
Race 5: No.4 United Legend
The Matthew Seyers-trained galloper has been in consistently good form this preparation and dropping back in distance here, looks a serious player for the gold medal in this event.
Last start, the So You Think gelding wasn’t disgraced when finishing fourth in a BM0-56 over 2200m at Balaklava with Todd Pannell aboard.
From gate one, Pannell restrained at barrier rise where he settled back in the field (on the fence) and after giving them a tidy start, secured a rails run on the turn, then soon after took the lead but was swamped by three swoopers where the four of them hit the line together, leaving this gelding an unlucky fourth, beaten just half a length on the line.
Drawn out in gate ten here, he maps to settle near mid-field with Harry Grace as the new pilot and facing similar company here, he can turn it around and collect the cash in this contest.
Race 9: No.2 Flying Ace
Luke O’Connor saddles-up Flying Ace here who is second-up and looks well placed to give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Flying Artie gelding resumed after four months off the scene and in need of the run, finished mid-field in a BM56 over 1050m at Balaklava.
Kayla Crowther settled him three pairs back to the turn, then weaving through traffic he ran home well and was doing his best work late when crossed the line in sixth place, beaten just over two lengths in the end.
Drawn much better today, he jumps form gate two and maps to settle just off the speed with Crowther steering the ship again.
Already a winner when second-up, a clear run to the line here can see the six-year-old taking home the gold medal in this contest.
