Who were the eyecatchers, who should you add to your black book for upcoming races and meetings and who do we recommended following in the weeks and months ahead?
Race 2: BM85 (1200m) – Bossed Up
The Tony Gollan-trained gelding was second-up on Saturday and showed plenty of improvement when finishing second in this race.
Ben Thompson had him settled fourth just off the speed before joining in on straightening and halfway home, looked the winner but was nosed out by one who finished nearer the inside.
The Better Than Ready five-year-old appears to be back on track and already a winner when third-up. Keep him under notice for his next start.
Race 3: Listed Tattersall’s Stakes (1400m) – The Machine Gun
Having just his second race start on Saturday, the Peter Snowden-trained colt put in an impressive performance to win this race.
Settling third, travelling three-wide to the turn, he then fanned even wider to join in the battle where three of them fought it out down to the wire, where the colt proved too strong in the end.
There’s plenty of upside about this two-year-old and it will pay to stick with him for now.
Race 8: Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400M) – Gerringong
The Team Munce-trained mare went into this black-type event with just one run under her belt and caught the eye with her effort to finish third in the big event.
Nash Rawiller had her settled back in the field, then in the run home, had a wall of horses in front of her and was never clear until inside the final 100m where she stormed home to grab the minor prize, unlucky not to finish closer in the end.
The four-year-old has placed twice previously when third-up and based on her efforts last Saturday, she can only improve from here.
