Race 5: No.8 Jazz All Night
The Canberra-based galloper is high-flying of late and looks set to lead this lot a merry dance in this event.
Last start, the Knight Exemplar mare made it a hat-trick of top-two finishes when she beat all but one home in a BM58, here over 1200m.
Claire Ramsbotham was aboard for the fourth time and had the mare in pride of place, leading the field on settling and in the run home, battled on strongly, only to be denied by one better over the final 100m, taking home the silver medal in the end.
Drawn in gate six here, she maps to be showing them the way again with Ramsbotham backing-up for this assignment.
Boasting a strong record on wet tracks, the forecast Soft 7 looks ideal for her here and a track specialist as well, the five-year-old should prove hard to beat in this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Canadian Ruler
The Matt Dale-trained galloper is unbeaten in two starts this time in and looks every chance of taking this event out and qualifying for the Country Championships in April.
Last start, the Vancouver gelding came off a win at Canberra when he franked that effort by taking out a strong BM72 Hcp over 1400m on the Kensington track at Randwick.
From gate five, Nick Heywood had him leading on settling and while lumping 60.5kgs, fought off a late challenge to claim the winner’s cheque on the line.
Ideally drawn in gate three, he maps to settle in the first half-dozen with Heywood in the saddle again.
Back to the country scene today, he drops in weight and should find this assignment a little easier.
Boasting three wins on soft tracks to date, the conditions are ideal for him today and he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 8: No.5 Mystic Diva
The Garry Kirkup-trained galloper is in top-shelf form this preparation and looks well placed for back-to-back success in this event.
Last start, the Divine Prophet mare was third-up and at her best when she claimed victory in a BM58 over 1600m at Goulburn.
Screaming out for the extra distance, Jeff Penza settled her near last early (on the fence) before peeling off heels on the turn and when the gap came, she found an extra gear and finished strongly, arriving in time to claim the gold medal on the line.
Facing similar company here over the mile trip again, she draws gate six and maps to settle behind most of them with Quayde Krogh back for his sixth ride on the mare.
Placed four times from her previous seven starts at the track, the six-year-old is in great form now and gets her chance to brake the shackles here and bring-up her first win at the Sapphire Coast today.
