Race 4: No.2 Hovland
Tom Charlton saddles-up Hovland here who is in good touch after two starts back and now looks ready to win.
Last start, the Dundeel gelding found the podium for the second time this campaign when he finished third in a BM72, here over 1600m.
On a Heavy 8 that day, Zac Lloyd settled him back in the field before running home strongly and while little chance of reeling in the leader, still hit the line full of running, beaten less than two lengths on the line.
From barrier eight, he maps to cross and settle near mid-field with Tommy Berry back aboard for his second ride on the four-year-old.
Already a winner when third-up and placed twice in both starts at the track to date, he looks the testing material in this contest.
Race 5: No.3 Hello Captain
The Chris Waller-trained galloper is high-flying after three career starts and second-up here looks set for the hat-trick.
Last start, the French-sired gelding resumed off a five-month absence and seeing a Sydney track for the first time did well when he took out a BM64 Hcp, here over 1100m.
With James McDonald aboard, he handled the Heavy 8 conditions well where he settled back in the field before tracking wide on the turn, then spotting them four lengths, chewed into the margin and arrived in time to claim the gold medal for the race.
Drawn wide here in gate ten, he maps to settle back in his usual role and take a sit with Tommy Berry as the new pilot.
Already a track and distance winner and revels in wet conditions, the three-year-old will take plenty of beating in this contest.
Race 6: No.3 Black Babylon
The Team Archibald-trained galloper is third-up today and ticks enough boxes to suggest he can figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Irish-bred gelding was second-up and showed plenty of improvement when he beat all but one home in a BM72, here over 2110m with Tom Sherry in the saddle.
He settled last in the 11-strong field as a $13 chance before tracking wide nearing the turn, then straightened-up the widest runner and spotting the leaders four lengths, ran home strongly to finish just over a length from the winner, collecting the silver medal for the race.
Drawn in gate six here, he maps to settle back in the field again with Sherry retaining the ride for this assignment.
Handling the heavy track well last start, similar conditions here should pose no dramas for the five-year-old and already a winner when third-up, facing similar company today, he looks in the mix for victory in this contest.
