Steve Bennett picks out his blackbookers and horses to follow from Saturday racing at Eagle Farm on 30 May.

Race 1: BM85 Hcp (1400m) – Pasima

The Heinrich & Rodgers-trained stallion was second-up on Saturday and after settling well back in the field, did well to finish fourth in the race.

Trapped wide to the turn, he than scouted even wider looking for room where he was held up before finally seeing daylight and although too far back to be a winning chance, did run home strongly behind the placegetters.

The five-year-old has won third-up previously and might be looking for the mile trip now with those two runs behind him.

Race 4: Group 2 Sires’s Produce (1400m) – Martist

The Tony Gollan-trained colt finished second in the Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Classic when first-up and on Saturday, franked that effort by finding the podium again when he took home third prize in this Group 2 event.

Mark Zahra settled him back in the field, then in the run home, was held-up several times and never really clear but still found the line strongly to grab third prize, beaten just 1.5 lengths after all the interference in the run home.

That’s four starts and four podium finishes on the Trapeze Artist’s resume now and he maybe even looking for a little further as he matures. Stick with him.

Race 6: Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) – Within The Law

The Bjorn Baker-trained filly resumed off a 10-week spell on Saturday and caught the eye when finishing third in this race.

Settling near last in the 18-strong field, Tommy Berry pushed forward approaching the turn before tracking wide and looking for clean air, came back inside and weaving through traffic, hit the line strongly, arriving in time to grab the minor prize.

He is still nominated for the Group 1 Stradbroke Hcp on 13 June and after his effort on Saturday, has firmed from $51 into $26 with Ladbrokes.

Already a winner when second-up and has finished runner-up on two occasions at Group 1 level, he certainly warrants some thought for a podium finish, should he start in the big race two weeks from now.
