Race 5: No.7 A Summer Fling
The Team Pearce-trained galloper resumes off a 19-week spell today and on fresh legs looks set to give this event a real shake.
Last start, the Pierro filly ended her first campaign by finishing third in a Three-Year-Old Hcp over 1200m at Pinjarra.
Sent out a red-hot $1.80 favourite, Chris Parnham settled her fourth, one off the fence before turning for home where she was caught napping and in the run to the line, got going too late, having to settle for the minor prize in the race.
From gate six, she maps to settle just behind the speed with Parnham remaining aboard for this assignment.
Placed in a recent trial, the three-year-old can number-up here and looks a serious player in this contest.
Race 6: No.7 Strapping Prophet
The Stephanie Bakranich-trained galloper is second-up today and after impressing on his return, looks set to go one better in this event.
Last start, the Universal Ruler gelding resumed after six months off the scene where he beat all but one home in a Class 3 Hcp over 1400m at Ascot.
Jason Whiting settled him back in the field and was caught wide to the turn before tracking even wider and in the run home, made up good ground to arrive in time and claim the silver medal, beaten just a head on the line.
Drawn better today in gate four, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover and has Whiting in the saddle again.
The stable fit the blinkers for the first time today and already a winner when second-up, the four-year-old looks a major threat in this contest.
Race 7: No.10 Thor’s Angel
The Brandon Fiore-trained galloper only has to overcome a wide draw to be considered a winning chance in this event.
Last start, the English-sired mare found her mojo and the winning post when she broke through for her first win in a set-weights Maiden over 2200m at Northam.
Punters sent her out a white-hot $1.70 favourite and she didn’t disappoint, clobbering her rivals as she travelled behind the leader to the turn, then taking over soon after, went on to score comfortably by almost four lengths on the line.
Drawn out in gate 12 of 14 today, she maps to roll forward and settle better than mid-field with regular rider Lucy Fiore at the helm again.
At her peak after five runs to date, a trouble-free run here can see her there at the finish in this contest.
