Canterbury racing takes place on Wednesday, May 27 with a 6-race program set down for the Canterbury racetrack.

Race 3: No.4 The Iron Star

The Marc Chevalier-trained galloper is in good touch this time in and lines-up here as one the main chances for victory in this event.

Last start, the Stratum Star gelding stepped-up in trip and did well when he beat all but one home in a Class 1/Maiden Plate over 1800m at Hawkesbury.

A big drifter in the market ($10-$16), he jumped from gate nine of ten where Tyler Schiller settled him at the tail of the field before putting in a big finish to grab the silver medal, beaten a whisker on the line.

From barrier eight, he maps to settle near mid-field with cover and has Schiller in the saddle again for this assignment.

A real model of consistency, the four-year-old has finished top-five in his past nine starts and with a trouble-free run here, he looks in the mix for another big effort in this contest.

Race 4: No.3 Chix

Tom Charlton saddles-up Chix here and at surprisingly good odds, he looks a big winning chance in this event.

Last start, the well-bred Flying Artie filly was second-up and improved enough to ring-up her third career win in just five starts when she took out a BM64 Hcp over 1300m on the Illawarra Grange track at Kembla.

Dylan Gibbons settled her second on the leader’s heels to the turn before sliding alongside the front runner when the two of them fought it out all the way to the line with Chix doing best where it mattered, taking home the gold medal in a tight finish.

From gate seven here, she maps to land mid-field or better with Anna Roper as the new pilot for this assignment.

Already a winner when third-up and has saluted in wet conditions as well, the three-year-old looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.

Race 5: No.6 Louie’s Legacy

The Canberra-based galloper is second-up here and after an impressive return to racing, looks in the mix to go one better in this event.

Last start, the American-sired gelding resumed after five months off the scene and impressed when he beat all but one home in Open company over 1200m on his home track.

Regular rider Quayde Krogh settled him mid-field early before working him into the race to the turn, then in the run home, gained a split and ran home strongly, beaten by one better on the day.

Fitter for that effort, he gets the gun-run here from gate one and has Krogh steering the ship again for this assignment.

Already a two-time winner when second-up and boasting a superb wet-track record, he will take beating in this contest.
