Race 2: No.3 A Time To Kill
The Travis Doudle-trained galloper showed a ton of improvement at his second race start and looks well placed here to go one better in this event.
Last start, the Star Witness gelding came off a last-placed racing debut at Morphettville when he beat all but one home in a Maiden Plate over 1200m at Murray Bridge.
Dylan Caboche settled him fourth in the run to the turn before coming off heels and in the run home, ran on strongly to beat all but the winner home, beaten just half a length on the line.
He draws the outside gate (10) today but has good early gate speed and maps to cross and settle better than mid-field with Kayla Crowther taking the reins for this assignment.
Even fitter for those two runs behind him now, a trouble-free run here can see him there at the finish of this contest.
Race 6: No.1 Overloaded
Brendon Davis saddles-up Overloaded here who has run himself into form of late and looks a sneaky chance in this event.
Last start, the Overshare gelding out in his best effort for a while when he beat all but one home in the Port Augusta Cup over 2300m.
The former Victorian-based galloper was having his first start for the Davis stable where jumped smartly and took up the front running on the all-weather track and set a moderate pace to the turn, then still going strongly, held the lead all the way home until grabbed by one better on the day in the final 50m of the race.
Seeing Balaklava for the first time here, he draws gate seven and maps to cross and settle near the speed again with Alyssa Webb retaining the ride after a strong performance on the gelding last start.
The six-year-old should find this a little easier and looks in the mix in this contest.
Race 7: No.1 Je City
Kate Halliday saddles-up Je City here who is two starts into this campaign and looks well placed in this grade to figure in the finish of this event.
Last start, the Ilovethiscity gelding was second-up and unwanted in the market ($31), did well to beat all but one home in a BM56 Hcp over 1400m at Murray Bridge.
Jemma Gutte settled him outside the leader to the turn, then taking over soon after, looked home for all money but was grabbed late by a swooper, beaten a head on the line.
This BM 0-56 should be a little easier where he draws gate nine and maps to settle better than mid-field in the big 16-strong field.
Fitter for those two runs back, Gutte remains in the saddle here and given a clear run to the line, the five-year-old looks a winning chance in this contest.
