Sandown Racing Tips for July 15 – Silent Shares hard to beat after Flemington Finals placing

Here are our best bets from the meeting, which is one of the five midweek meetings from around Australia that we are previewing in our daily tips.

Next Tuesday can get the job done in Race 2. The Charlotte Littlefield filly has placed in all three of her runs to date and narrowly went down on a Heavy 10 track last time behind Two Stroke Baby at Bendigo over the 1600m. She sat outside the leader on a breakneck tempo with that horse puncturing to finish 30 lengths away but Next Tuesday kepy finding, only to be grabbed as a sitting duck in the shadows in what was a brave effort to go 3.1 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced. She went 1.7 lengths slower at her start prior to that when 3rd on the Caulfield Heath. The daughter of Dundeel will not be a Maiden for two much longer and will relish the track conditions with wet weather forecast in the lead up to Wednesday. 

Silent Shares should be hard to beat in Race 3 of the day at Sandown. The four-year-old drops in grade, coming off a solid 3rd placing in the Leilani Series Final (1400m) at Flemington on Finals Day. She was towards the tail in that race before clocking the fastest last 200m to go more than 11 lengths faster than standard benchmark. The Gavin Bedggood-trained galloper will be right on top of her game after four runs and was a strong winner at Sandown at the Lakeside circuit the last time she raced in similar company to this, which was three starts back. Wet track won’t present any concerns and she draws well in barrier 6 with the 3kg claimer, Bailey Kinninmont, to ride. 

Faraway Dream is a solid player in Race 4 at Sandown on Wednesday. The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained galloper has won two of four and returned with a 5th placing at Caulfield in BenchMark 74 company over the 1000m on June 17. She was trapped wide no cover throughout but stuck on to go more than four lengths faster than standard benchmark. The daughter of Farnan was scratched from the meeting at Sandown last week after drawing wide but gets barrier 5 this week and can slot into a nice spot with cover, while this looks easier than her first up outing and she will strip fitter. 

Going with Empress Of The Sun in Race 7, which sees the stayers slug it out over the 2400m. The Ciaron Maher-trained galloper scored in dominant fashion at Lakeside two starts ago over the 2400m on a Heavy 8 and just missed out last time as the exacta horse when attempting to repeat the dose, finishing runner-up behind Nearco Ford. He just had a tendency to overrace in that when the tempo slackened in the middle stages but meets the winner 3.5kg better at the weights, while he draws favourably this time around and can dictate, like he did two starts ago.
